The Gamesters of Triskelion

The Enterprise arrives at Gamma II for a routine inspection. But during beam-down, Kirk and his landing party are abducted by an unknown technologically advanced race. On arrival to the Triskelion civilization, the landing crew learns that they are to be part of a contingent of expendable slaves used in athletic competitions for the inhabitant’s amusement. In order to survive, the captain must find a way to compete successfully as a “thrall” while formulating a plan for rescue.

And just a reminder, next week is a rerun of “Catspaw” but the grading thread will be back for the first weekend of November with “Metamorphosis”.

Wow... this thread idea is such a hit... It looks like it is just me again.

This episode always bugged me. It has nothing to do with the story or the concept of three brains forcing slaves to fight. It was Shatner chewing the scenery for an hour. He may have turned in some over-the-top performances in the course of the series but this one was really pushing it even for him. After his speech about sacrificing himself for green girl I kept looking for the canned ham label on his back. I gave it a C-.

As for the Remastering... I gave it an Excellent. Just the orbiting shots alone made me drool.

Maybe you could try working the episode title into the subject line, like the old "What's New" thread? Might draw more attention that way.

Also, I miss that thread, because I got to read in detail about the new sequences a day or so ahead of time. It doesn't air until late Sunday night around here.

^ That might work. I will try it next time. (However a lot of the Grading/Discussion threads are dead these days so I am not really sure what to do.)

And I really liked that thread too. I wonder who used to do it?

Well you should still be able to edit your original post and re-title the thread.

Every local station airs the episodes at different times. So its hard for everyone to join in together. The episode should have just ended on my local channel but it has yet to even start. I am assuming a local sports game pushed all programming later.

You get 24 hours to edit and it is well past that so it will have to be the next thread.

And having done more than a few Grading/Discussion threads here on this board (with five currently going right now and four more at another board), I have a pretty good feel after a few threads to know if it is a winner or not. Sometimes there just isn't enough interest and you have to cut your loses and move on. And looking at the last three threads I am beginning to think this one is a dud. I will keep doing this for a while longer of course but my schedule is to heavy to continue past the New Year if there isn't any point too.

I used to do the "What's new" threads as the new shows aired at 6:00 AM on Saturday, but the station stopped showing them. Also, as you looked at the detail, I got a little tired writing "new oribit scene" etc. as I saw more and more scenes being reused, ala original TOS.

I'll get, apparently, about 53 minutes out of the hour, thanks to Boston's late-night programming issues!

BTW (sorry for the double post), McCoy's question about whether someone could survive ("it's been nearly an hour...can someone live that long as disassembled atoms in a transporter beam?") is a nice lead-in to TNG's "Relics" episode. :)

What always gets me about this episode. Kirk leaves a love sick Smoking hottie, who's also maybe a virgin, behind...IS HE NUTS? Well, he is Kirk. To you and I, a green haired babe in metallic underwear might be the best we could ever do, but to Kirk she's just another bitch! See how easy he punched her out. Didn't even have to pimp slap her, just a tape and the glass jawed girl was KO'ed. (Yet, he seems to struggle fighting her at the end.)

"Shahna, the providers are disembodied brains!"

"Brain, brain? What is brain?!"

There was something disturbing about cutting to commercial as Uhura was apparently about to be raped and the first commericial was for something called "Head On".

Speaking of such...the practice target thrall scene:
Galt: "She will take the punishment."

Uhura: "Hold on, this ain't ROOTS!"

And later Galt interrupting Kirk's make-out session...what a jerk. Galt doesn't ever blink, either.

And as usual, Kirk steps on blue and gets away with it. HE BROKE THE RULES.

This has never been one of my favorites, but I did love the new shots. C for pretty average episode, Excellent for the remastered visuals.

I figure as long as one foot is in at all times, then it's OK, he's not actually leaving the yellow zone.

F-minus and poor.

But that's probably because Verizon FiOS changed my channel lineup on Saturday and my TiVo recorded the wrong channel.

^ I think everyone is getting the bum's rush from their local stations on this. :( I hate everyone is having such a hard time seeing the episodes.

I, on the other hand, have been blessed. The local CW/UPN/FOX station has a programming director who loves Trek. With the exception 2005, the Saturday 8pm time slot has been nothing but Trek for the last fifteen years. And when DS-9 and TNG was on together we had a two hour Trek block! I should write them a note thanking them. (But I am moving in the next month or so and I have no idea if my destination has the same set-up or not. If not I will be setting the TiVo.)
