Dagger of the Mind

While on a supply mission to the Tantalus V penal colony, the Enterprise unwittingly takes on a passenger, an escaped prisoner. But this is no ordinary prisoner. It is soon discovered that he is in fact Dr. Simon Van Gelder, associate director of the colony. With the help of psychiatrist Helen Noel, Kirk begins to investigate the experimental facility and Dr. Van Gelder’s behavior but quickly uncovers a sinister scheme.

Since it looks like I am the only one to have watched... or was able to watch...

I give the episode a solid C. I have always liked it but it drags a bit in the middle and some of the dialog is a little wooden. However it does introduce some interesting ideas about rehabilitation even if Dr. Adam's behavior towards said rehabilitation is never explained to my satisfaction.

As for the remastering, I give it an Above Average. The new matte painting was beautiful and the space shots were nice. I really liked seeing the Enterprise banking back toward the planet.

I liked that banking shot as well. They really have the classic shot of the enterprise in orbit nailed.

I see all the FX shots as being a way to lead TOS into TMP as the ship moves in a more film like way then a TV show type way, if you know what I mean.

I'm wondering why they're bothering to restore the film at all, because literally one-half of this episode has unrestored live-action shots.
