Star Trek: Rebirth

Ok, some people might recognize this idea from another show, but I had this idea before I saw this show.

2450, the degradation of subspace due to warp travel has reached catastrophic levels. Ships can no longer create stable warp fields, cutting entire systems off from the interstellar community. Earth's economy collapses, Betazed becomes a barren waste due to over population. The entire alpha and beta quadrant collapses into a dark age, and the mighty federation becomes a legend.

12400's, over the thousands of years without warp travel, subspace has healed itself. In the earth system, the moon had long ago been converted into a self contained utopia where some semblance of the civilized world still exists. Old derelict ships respond to the reforming of the subspace layer. The people of the lunar colony decided to use these old ships and try to restore order to the alpha quadrant. Calling themselves the Galactic Federation, they set out on a mission to bring light to the darkness.

Another superb Roddenbery creation. I'll give you a hint, Hercules was the captain

Why would the Alpha Quadrant be out of order?

More likley it seems to me, would be the Beta Quadrant.

The original poster already explained why the Alpha Quadrant is in dissarray, he also included the entire galaxy, not just one quadrant. Due to the lack of commerical and personal space travel resulting from the inability to the degredation of subspace...entire star systems economies would collaspse (at least in his idea) thus settling in a period of galactic turmoil and chaos.

I for one have been interested in this type of idea...The Fall of the Federation and a crew or crews attempting to rebuild it in some form.

Yeah, I've toyed with the idea and I've seen loads of ideas tossed around. The Borg succeed at annexing Earth. Pockets of random human and alien survivors have commited themselves to slapping aside the Collective's tendrils extending outward toward the Beta and Gamma Quadrants, for reasons entirely their own.

Or the Borg take down everything surrounding Starfleet, leaving Earth itself & The Federation for last.

Or, the "caught between heaven & hell" alternative universe as a result of psionic manipulation (Jean-Luc Riker & Minuette, anyone?)

Well, no one has seen a "cannon" star map, but from what I know the star trek starcharts are mostly accepted. These show earth on the border between the two quadrents. Also, once subspace was damaged to a certain point it would cause a chain reaction that would spread across the galaxy. Atleast thats what my thoughts of it were.
