(I would recommend the Vimeo link. There are two minor glitches with the YouTube video.)

I agree, Vimeo quality is much better than Yt's watered down version of video.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Well, what can I say? Cute it is.

Maybe you could try a better preparation for audio recording, maybe on a seperate device/recorder? That could make audio processing and mixing easier, I guess.
And try not to forget sound fx like walk or wind sounds. Just listening to noise reduced voices can sometimes spoil the experience.

Well, Captain Grigory for sure is one hell of a hero, ignoring Phaser Blasts almost completely! ;-)

Greetings
Per

My anti-virus software blocks me from watching Vimeo, so... have you unglitched the You Tube video yet?

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Barb, what anti-virus program are you running and on which browser?

That's what we were trying for with both "Beach Towel" and its sequel, "Shovel of Kahless." :)

We did last year, and it helps tremendously. It helps that we're continuing to learn more and more about Adobe Audition. Every single line in "Shovel of Kahless" were dubbed in save for "Right, Bob?" We cleaned this one up considerably, but we're still learning.

I agree, and probably went overboard with the OUTER LIMITS planet sound.

That he is. :) But he had to not show fear with Captain Kesh not even blinking at the firefight around them. :D

Thanks for the feedback, Per!

The glitches are two single frames in two different shots where the Vendorian cuts out one frame early. Frankly, we've been unable to figure out how to upload a replacement video to YouTube, and since that's the video with all the Closed Captioning (English and Russian), it's unlikely it will ever be "unglitched." Vimeo is a much better quality delivery system. Besides, I'm not sure how many people could actually spot the two single frames that omitted the Vendorian.

Thank you. You solved my problem, It doesn't run on Chrome, but it does run on Internet Explorer. I haven't tried Firefox yet. And the anti-virus software is McAfee.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

We use Chrome exclusively, and have never had an issue. Sounds like it's a McAfee thing.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

FYI, you cannot replace a video on YouTube, I suspect that's done to avoid "spoofing".

You can, however, export a closed captioning file, save it, then attach it to a new upload of the same video.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

I run Chrome for Viemo and never had any problems with it. We dumped Mcafee and went with another anti-virus, due to having it block things that we knew were okay...

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Mcafee is the single worst virus scanner I ever had. I would heartily recommend going elsewhere for your antiviral needs.

Ah, but then you lose the viewer numbers and stats and all your links to the file have to be updated. Rather just not deal with that. Easier to upload a replacement vid to Vimeo, if the need arises.

This vignette has been CC for English, and Russian and Spanish are in the works, as well as Portuguese.

I did speak with Bill Mackenzie today. Bill plays Lt. Caley in our series, and his wife directed this particular episode. They're going to do a special "director's edition" and we'll upload it when it's completed in the coming months.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Yeah. Best not to replace it unless you need to. Usually what I recommend is uploading it as private or unlisted, waiting a day or two and looking at how YouTube processed it and make sure they are no glitches before going live. If there are problems you can upload a new version before making it public.

Also, for anyone who wants to have closed captioning on a film on YouTube, I recommend attaching them to the video using the tools there rather than making multiple editions of the film each with burned-in subtitles, since that will pile all your hits on the one video.

Believe me, we did exactly that. It was only two days after the FINAL FINAL FINAL 3 release met everyone's approval that someone else stepped forward with those two little glitches that I'm not going to worry about for YouTube. (We fixed them and uploaded a new version to Vimeo.)

We have only one translated version that does this. The other translations are embedded in YouTube. We have learned something very important. Do the English CC before doing the others. It creates a template and makes doing the others far easier since it's just a matter of plug and chug. Just make sure you save a caption for the title and translated by credit.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Project: Potemkin VFX Artist Chris Cameron put together a behind the scenes on creating the Vendorian. He does offer this cautionary statement: "Fair warning, it can be a bit nonsensical at times Also I have a crappy place to film things."

We hope you enjoy a bit of an insight into what he had to put up with.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

I liked the chemistry between Grigory and the Klingon Captain, although there might have been missed opportunity for a scene where the two of them establish the bond where they could commiserate about having to deal with such a mundane task, but eventually agreeing that their feelings weren't as important as trying to keep the peace process on track. The makeup did seem to be a bit more of an issue this time, perhaps because of the camera angles that seemed to expose the prosthetics. A light-hearted sketch involving Klingons was a very nice change of pace.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Thanks for the feedback, Mike!

Yes, we like the chemistry with Grigory and Kesh ourselves, to the point that Kesh will returning now and again.

Yes, the makeup became a real issue. After Eric got his headpiece on, he kept getting a headache. Eric usually can tough anything out (90 degree weather, uncomfortable/unnatural positions, physically challenging situations), but he couldn't handle this headache, so we let him get the appliance on in a comfortable manner and adopted the old "we'll fix it in post" attitude. (And you can actually see where we applied a fast blur mask to both his and Jeremy's headpieces.) Ashley's headpiece was not going to work. Her forehead was half the size of the appliance, so we used stage makeup. For the most part, I think hers worked the best.

But yes, this one and the one that preceded it (Beach Towel) were both light hearted sketches. We needed a break after killing so many cadets in "Second Contact" and an entire planet's population in "Ashes."

Our next production, "Command Decision," takes a look at a difficult decision for Captain Grigory and a young officer who thinks he knows better.

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

Being well-acquainted with the Georgia/Florida heat and humidity I have all the sympathy in the world for everyone tryiing to deal with it in full costume. Toughing it out is all well and good but heat stroke is a potentially deadly problem. If you guys ever want a more mild place to shoot, come on up to Idaho, I'll show you some truly awesome locations...btw today's weather report: partly cloudy 73 degrees, 29 percent humidity!

Re: Star Trek ~ Project Potemkin "Shovel of Kahless" S02-F NOW ON-LIN

That sounds heavenly at this time of the year. We're filming in a swamp in two weeks. Today's temp is only 92. Humidity is 50%. That's a whopping 102, which is relatively comfortable. :) When we filmed that day, the temp wasn't so much an issue as the wind. Every line but one was dubbed in ADR. Sometimes more than once. :)
