Star Trek Phase II Revisited

Yeah they are labelled as TMP although as I say, I'm not sure that a Deltan in robes appeared in the movie?

Some of the scuplts are a bit ropey as standards weren't quite so high back in the 80s. I rather like the aliens, although the klingons are way too short. I wish they hadn't used a clean slate for TNG and had done something with them.

My not have been seen in camera, but a few were costumed by Robert Fletcher for the airtram port. The designs of the alien figures all came from TMP and not anything associated with Phase II. Moreover, the alien designs in TMP weren't created until Robert Fletcher and Fred Philips started working on the film. The only holdover from P:II was Ilia in terms of "looks". She was going to wear a bald cap for the aborted series but ended up shaving her head for the movie.

That's because MEGO was new (late) to the 3 3/4" figure game. Before that, they made beautiful 8" action figures with cloth costumes and uniforms, and marvelous details in the sculpts. In fact, the TOS Kirk was one of the most accurate likenesses of Shatner on a figure ever. Still is. They switched over to 3 3/4" after Kenner came out with the Star Wars line. One of their first 3 3/4" lines was the "Pocket Heroes" and was sorely a miss.

Odd, the only Mego figures I ever thought looked like their live-action counterparts were Spock and McCoy. The others just bore a vague resemblence. In fact, that was one are where Playmates excelled, at least at first, their head sculpts actually looked like the real actors.

I loved the little 4" Mego figures - I was really upset that Mattel went to town on Star Wars but Trek only produced a handful of characters.
