Star Trek novelization and the Kirk family

Does anyone know if the novelization for the Star Trek 2009 movie expand on the Kirk family, particularly details on Jim's brother Sam and who Jim was raised by (that was his stepfather I think)
Memory Beta confirms that Sam is in the comics so he exists, and is supposed to be the kid Jim drives past in the corvette.
The article for Sam says that Frank is his stepfather, but the articles for Jim and Winona say Frank is Winona's brother, but that Winona remarries later. So there is some contradictory information on Frank.

LOL, I had this crazy idea for a fanfic which I'm not gonna do, BTW, where Spock and Kirk play "The Parent Trap" and bring their widowed parents together. It's not too much of a stretch, as Spock's dad already liked one Human woman. If successful, imagine Spock and Kirk sharing a half-sister and mirroring their parents' arguments about how to raise the child.

On topic, I did sort of read the book but remember little. "Johnny" is the kid he drives by in the film (dubbing changed it from George). Sam, his wife Aurelan, and son Peter all exist in the AR comics, and all survive. :)
