Star Trek: Mass Effect

Okay, I just recently completed my first play through of Mass Effect, and have to say that it was the single most fulfilling science fiction experience I have had in years. This got me thinking, what if Star Trek shifted away from television/movies in favor of massive RPGs that came out on a yearly basis with an average of 20+ hours of game play if you explore every nuance. "Viewers" would have an opportunity develop a character and experience a season's worth of Star Trek from the perspective of either a helm officer, scientist, security/tactical, or engineer. On your second play-through you could retain your character and play as XO, and on the third as CO.

What do you think? What type of over arcing story would you like to see? What side missions would make sense?

One final thing. For those non-gamers they would be able to purchase the cut-scenes on a companion DVD.

Its an interesting idea. Are you talking about something akin to an mmorpg? If so, I believe they have one in the works. I would wonder how they might keep everything fresh. The missions (quests for most of these games) tend to get redundant when you get to your second or third character.

No. Just a single player RPG experience were you get to play a season of Star Trek as a character you develop through the initial setup and the decisions you make in the game.

Google: Mass Effect and watch the trailer. It mixes cut scenes and actual game play. The only difference I think would be needed for this to work as a canon series is that players could play a "light" version of the game were they could just play through the cut scenes.

Also by all accounts Start Trek Online is pretty much dead. Also MMORPGs require way to much time. I'm envisioning a structured Trek Experience were players would have some effect in teh overall plot.

Ok, so a traditional rpg then. Would you have the freedom of Fable and rpg's like that which do alot of character developement based on your choices?

And I was kind of looking forward to STO too...

You mean like ST: Online? Which was canned due to inferior quality, I might add.
If the level of quality in Trek games does not rise significantly, I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

Plus, anyone remember the desaster that was Star Wars: Galaxies?

TSFS could be made into a tradtional RPG, you start of as Kirk alone, recruit Sulu, Uhura, Scotty etc. and free Bones. Steal the Enterprise and go to Genesis etc. Sounds like a similar story structure to some RPGs and has the mystical ending as well.

The story goes it was more simply a case of the developer running out of money, being overextended with other projects, getting sued, etc.

This thread reminds me of a thread I myself posted back in january. Here's a link to it. My idea was a game based on something similar to 'Elder Scrolls: Oblivion', as the thread goes on I give further ideas about missions and stuff.
