He mentioned putting yellow tapes into the food slot, so I'm guessing it's Disco or TOS-era.

I'm curious about the animation style. Hoping for TOS bright colours.

I hope they set it in the TOS era with TOS Klingons but without hair, lol.

If the Star Wars fan base hasn't turned me off of Star Wars, then I think Rick and Morty is safe.

The people writing Deadline these days are notorious hacks. In all situations where their information is in conflict with literally any other source, your better bet is going with the other source.

Not to say it won't end up an adult-focused cartoon, but the Deadline people are just guessing and presenting it as if they've done actual reporting. The reliable trade publications don't seem to indicate either way, so I think we just don't know yet.

No complaint yet about crossing Gene's "vision?"

I love how angry about this whole thing some people are getting. Lighten up, Herbert.

They need to do like Doctor Who with the Daleks a few years back and just have a big meeting of Klingons in all shapes and colors (Enterprise/TNG, Discovery, nuDiscovery, Kelvinesque, TOS, TAS, TMP, Undiscovered Country).

Protagonist: "Wow, the Klingon Empire has alot of diverse species!"

Other Guy: "What? No, just the one species. They're all Klingons."

A Parliament of the Klingons would be fantastic!

This looks like a Futurama Trek ....so, I'm signing for it.

So what, is this going to be the misadventures of Ensign Beer Bong or something like that. Star Trek has rarely done comedy well, usually any attempts to do comedy in Star Trek falls flat. Having an entire adult comedy Star Trek cartoon sounds dicey. I think having a Star Trek adventure show aimed at kids makes sense, get some younger people invested in the franchise, especially since Discovery is not really suitable for kids.

Orville is already a raunchy Star Trek style comedy show, what does this cartoon bring to the table?

Anyone know how soon we can expect the series?

I went looking and Bojack Horseman took about 9 months from announcement to release, while Rick and Morty from renewal to release takes 18 to 23 months.

If CBS is committed to keeping Discovery in January to March every year, maybe we'll see this during Spring 2020?

Deadline/Variety/TVLine are as reliable as it gets. Dunno what's got into your bonnet...

I think it takes longer than a year to make Discovery. I reckon Season 3 is more likely starting around April 2020, with Picard taking its place January 2020?

They could also just mean younger adults than they currently have. This could be aiming to be a college-age favourite like Rick and Morty. I think the only series that'll really skew into teens is Starfleet Academy.

This is the best possible outcome if they're going the 'adult comedy' route. I'd much rather it lean towards Futurama sci-fi comedy than Rick and Morty sci-fi comedy (I love Rick and Morty, disclaimer)

I just saw the announcement about this, and I could not be happier, I think I'm probably more excited for this than I was Discovery. For a while now I've been wishing we could get a full on comedy Trek series (and yes I know about The Orville and I love it), and I'm happy that it's actually happening. Rick and Morty is IMO one of the best, and smartest sci-fi comedies, so doing the new series as an animated series from one of it's writers is a great move.
