I am a Lord of the Rings fan. LOTR is perhaps one of the greatest fantasy series of all time and perhaps the greatest fantasy series that takes place in a medieval setting.
One thing that amazes me about the films of LOTR is how all the characters were so balanced and seemed to have a subplot story of their own that got nothing to do with Aragorn, The Ring or Frodo and this got me thinking about why the writers of Trek cant write the Trek characters like that.
Sure in LOTR, Aragorn and Frodo were the two main characters but you always got to see other supporting characters on screen all the time and you always got a sense of what was going on in their lives. Example of this characters includes Arwen, Faramar , Denathor ,Ewoyn and King Théoden.
None of these characters where even part of the fellowship and yet we still got an in-depth story of what their lives were about.
The Star Trek films is basically the Kirk and Spock show. I do not think that is necessary wrong, however it just got me curious of what the movies will be like if the film had a story with so much character development for the rest of the other cast members of Trek.
Maybe I am asking for too much and maybe it is not a good comparison since LOTR films are book adaptations but it would be nice to see other characters do something that is not tied to Kirk or Spock and even with Kirk and Spock ,we are accepting them in this timeline based on their history in TOS and not on the last two films since Spock Prime told us they have and must be friends.
I am not even sure if it is good thing anymore.
