Star Trek: Legends

Ok, so here's my idea for a new Trek series.

I call it Star Trek: Legends.

It tells the story of the USS Avalon. The Avalon could be from either the 23rd or 24th century. It ultimately does not matter. On its maiden voyage, the Avalon is thrown back in time several thousand years (perhaps as many as 10,000). It a period of time for which there are few to no records. Many of the space faring races of this era have long ago shifted into the realm of legends. The story could feature a great war/strugle between these ancient races. We'd possibly find out the origin of the Doomsday machine and learn the fate of races like The T'Kon Empire, the Iconians, The Vaudouir, the early role of the Organians and perhaps the origin of the Borg. We might find out about the great barrier or why "God" was imprisoned at the heart of the Galaxy. Perhaps we'd even see a point when the Prophets truly were of Bajor.

The beauty of this story is that you can a large expansive story and create whole new races without having much impact on the rest of Trek. Its about the history that few people in "modern trek" would even know about.

I could see your "legends" idea, though just to make it interesting, (& to help steer clear of a Voyager-like "uber-godship",) I'd make it a Norway-Class starship that just happens to be in the absolutely worst place at the wrong time when the Krenim decide to follow Voyager's starcharts in its database back to the Alpha/Beta Quadrants.

In the midst of the initial crossfire between the Krenim & the Norway-Class border cutter, ("Q" from TNG) decides to give Starfleet a fighting chance of "making a difference" rather than allow Starfleet to be picked-off by a Krenim science The Federation has little understanding of, and little preparation to defend themselves from it.

So "Q" sends the Norway-Class border cutter & its crew to a dicey "make-or-break" point in ancient history as they're hit by the Krenim Weapon, as the ship sends out its distress call.

It's an interesting spin on a prequel. Much like nu BSG did, your crew could end up being the Preservers or something, discovering their fate is to seed the humanoid form across the quadrant.

If you'll allow me, your title "Star Trek: Legends" conjures something completely different in my mind. An anthology set of 5 or 6 TV Movies each centred on a different Captain, preferably with a larger story arc that connects them altogether... It would require a meaty story to get Shatner back as Kirk, or Stewart to sign off on Picard's future. Remaining tales could cover Archer's Romulan War story, Pike's final mission in the Prime Universe culminating in his handover to Kirk, Sisko returning to Starfleet haunted by his experiences with the Prophets and Janeway adjusting to life back on Earth.

Great ideas for stories from these concepts. Any of them would make a great miniseries or a series of movies. Too bad they don't do direct to dvd for trek, i think it would be quite profitable for TPTB.
