Star Trek Generations 2

I also found on youtube an old movie trailer made for Star Trek First contact when the working title was Star Trek Generations 2. Kind of neat to see. Let me know if you are able to see it. http://youtu.be/V2itjwlVzEw

I remember hearing that once upon a time they were going to call the Next Gen film series "Generations 2, Generations 3," etc. Which is just silly, since the original title referred to the combining of the two "generations" of crews in Star Trek VII. The title would make no sense after that.

I never understood the fascination with Star Trek and the word Generation(s). When you watch the Generations 2 trailer, is it me, or does Geordi sound like a girl in that trailer???

At the end there is footage of a planet exploding or being destroyed. What episode/film is that from?

That planet that was destroyed was from the movie Star Trek Generations. It was the planet in the Veridian system that the saucer section of the Enterprise D crash landed on.

That trailer looks more like a fan creation than anything official, or something for a TV series instead of a movie.

Lots of scenes from the series, would they have used those in a film trailer?

Looked and sounded official to me. It was, after all, 1995. lol. Most trailers from that era, and earlier, seem like utter crap today.

As an aside, it's such a pity they got rid of the Galaxy Class Enterprise. She looked really great on the big screen.

^ I think it's the inclusion of all the TV scenes that makes me think it isn't official.

It really reminds me of the original "coming soon" TNG series commercials from 1986-87.

It looks like an industry promo tape to me, trying to get someone or some group excited that a sequel to GEN was on the way, and they were looking for corporate partners.

As for the TV fotage? Sure, why not use it? Some of the effects work in TNG was amazing fifteen years ago, and besides, GEN didn't offer too many moments of breathtaking excitement to pack a traler with, did it?

I don't think such was ever used in theaters or outside of the fan-base. I imagine it was used on a CD-ROM or two, maybe shown at conventions.

That said, it's an awesome historical quirk of Trekdom. I love it for that.

And while trailers from that era usually where sucky... the final trailer for First Contact was pure and simply genius epic awesomeness. It stacks up beyond a lot of modern ones. The commercials for the film where awesome as well, though only one or two of them survive on-line. First Contact was really the best example of good marketing for a Trek film.

The theatrical teaser trailer for Star Trek: Generations included a lot of scenes straight from the series, like the Bozeman emerging from the time rift. Recycle what you got, I guess. :)

Actually I do remember seeing this trailer. I found this on youtube and I do remember seeing it way back when. Not to mention the voice-over guy isn't some guy at a computer in his mom's basement. I think I can say that no matter what movie trailer that we've seen, we've heard his voice before. I do remember seeing it though just like Khan's baby son in Wrath of Khan. Maybe it's just me though.

Reminds me of that early First Contact trailer which used the music from The Undiscovered Country and special effects shots from TNG and VOY.

I remember being a bit disappointed when I found out that the movie didn't actually feature a TNG/VOY crossover. :p And of course I assumed that the Enterprise-E was going to be a Galaxy-class as well (just like the Enterprise-A was another Constitution-class).

Well, Generations had clips from the TV show put into that film's trailer. I still remember a miranda class ship appearing in that trailer for no reason, which had appeared in a TNG episode. Looked cool, but had nothing to do with the movie.

I must've been out when they showed these trailers, I really don't remember any of this.

I did see the movies, at least. :)

Yeah, that's funny, because that's exactly why I remembered seeing this "Star Trek Generations 2" trailer back in 95! I saw it and I assumed that the Enterprise was going to be a Galaxy class ship with a third nacelle. Also I remember on this same trailer it was so funny to me when the voice-over guy said that Generations had made like $26 million dollars in the first week, then you hear Data's YES!! line and it just struck me as being real funny. By the way, I ask again, is it just me, or did Georgi LaForge sound like a woman in this trailer?!?!

And just were you smoking?...I never saw anything like that back in '95 and I watch,...TRUST me
Sounds like a FAN produced video with the "voice-over" to me....

^ But that voice does sound familiar, I just can't place it.

He should definitely sound familiar, as he's the same person who provided the voice overs for the other TNG film trailers, except for Nemesis (I think)

Etc.

I'm going with it being official (especially with the voiceover guy providing the narration.) This could have been used for industry purposes, advertising for potential product tie-ins that there's a new film on its way. Very similar to how CBS already starting to get people on board for licensing, etc., with the current sequel and pitching it as simply "Star Trek 2."

Yeah, but I never saw any of those trailers, I'm sure of that. Maybe he did similar voice-overs for other movie trailers?

I can almost hear him doing some trailer or "coming attractions" type of thing.
