Star Trek: Distant Shores- Ambessalion

This series describes a mission of the USS Ibn Battuta. I named it for a Muslim explorer that lived during the 14th century. Few westerners know this man...he was a Berber, in Tunisia..... contemporary of Marco Polo...he traveled all over Asia and Africa roughly at the same time as Polo...hes' more known about in the Muslim world... i have a whole history of the ship from it's commission in 2360 to its retirement circa 2440 or so...i have several captains and crews for it. The series starts in 2408...i'm not sure yet when it will end.... I'm planning to write a full fledged technical manual that i'll eventually publish.


I'm trying to make that race as realistic as possible......i have a space fleet (navy and freighters, etc), a language, alphabet, a world, religion, philosophy and history and I'm working on an ethnography, and biology and geology and culture(s)...and also allies and enemies........all the races will be just as sophisticated but I'm furtherest along with the main one....the various races will be allies or enemies...the symbol i have on my avatar is my own design that i came up with to symbolize them like the Klingon trifoil or the Cardassian silhouette. they're named the Hirazi...the name of the planet is Zuo'Hiraz....like we named Earth/Terra/Gea and the other planets and moons, etc after the Greco-Roman names ...the Hirazi named the planets and moons after their pantheon


The story is basically a DS9/'Trading Places' kind of situation where a ship from a far region of the galaxy comes to the Federation and proposes an exchange of emissaries/ambassadors where they study each other....the Federation sends my ship to the alien region and the alien ship stays in the Federation....i don't want the series to be a space battles kind of thing, i want to it to be a 14th century age of exploration/discovery kind of thing like TOS was in the first season.......

besides the Hirazi i have about 70 other races that are in rudimentary stages of development....if anyone is willing to help me flesh them out then i will credit u in the works....

*Since 2 of the planets are on the same orbit, the 5th one, they're counted as simply a double planet system (numbered as a and b in the 5th orbit)

Zuo’Hiraz is the 4th planet of Olaca, the primary star of the Olaca-Zly’ing double-star system. The secondary star Zly’ing has its own solar system as well but none are class-M. Olaca and some of the moons of the system's gas giants are class-M.......the Zly'ing system is used by the Hirazi Navy and many corporation for research and development stations....other systems in the coalition are research stations as well....

Olaca is a G5-type dwarf star, Zly'ing is a K1-type star...the 2ndary star orbit the primary in a highly elongated and elliptical that brings them closest to each other every 6 million years...

I'll give more details about the moons in both these systemsand research outposts in the Zly'Ing system in the Manual. I'll list the other colonized systems by the Hirazi League but i'll list the planets and moons in the Manual

The stars are the following: Kal'Torra, Ralgin's Twins (double star system) Enotar, Lunag, Tangorff, Ranoke, Lienrend, Milang, and Hagrop.

2 large continents(the size of Asia)...22 major islands (500K t0 10K sq. mi. size) .....all minor islands are <10K sq. mi.

its about 60% oceans with the tropics are up to about 30 degrees N and S of equator.....

the capital city of the Hirazi League and Hirazi Coalition (this will be explained in the history section) is the M'eshra Imperial District...its a beautiful city of tall grand structures, imperial monuments, major corporations and a number of high profile universities....only elites of society can afford to live in this city....

Several of the cities in the metropolitan areas are also bustling centers of commerce and intellect...

There are dozens of cities around the planet famous through out the region for their wonders....

History

The Hirazi have had a world government for over 9000 years. Before most of the worlds of the Federation were even civilized, the Hirazi were fully united in brotherhood.

The various kairmegs that the Zuo'Hiraz is politically divided into used to be ancient alliances that warred with eachother until the world government formed.

Hirazi League was founded 2700????? years ago, a brutal repressive empire that used the other worlds they conquered for slave labor at first and eventually under-class low wage laborers. The League collapsed when the member races rebelled.

Hirazi Coalition founded a few decades later. It was founded on the basis that all members are equals with full rights to all individuals and races. Members are former members of the Hirazi League. Zuo’Hiraz and its colonies maintain the name Hirazi League (Like Yugoslavia did after it's break up).

The Hirazi calender system is centered on the Boolrek 'Divine Vision'...Agzal (prince) Althara Yangi Tara, the crown prince of <regional kingdom>, was on a ritual hunt that all princes of the Alqouni culture had to go through before the age of 30 if they are to rule the kingdom when he got injured by the animal he was hunting at the age of 27...he lied there delirious for 2 days before he was found and he had a series of visions....over the years he revealed his vision to his friends and family and over the decades gathered a following and now most of the Hirazi are adherents. The dates are called either TB (Tal Boolrek= before divine vision) or RB(Ral Boolrek = after divine vision) in relation to this event. Althara became Agzool (king) in the year of 4 RB and ruled until his passing in the yea 63RB.

Farming starts at about 800TB...wheel was invented at around 640TB...first canals were built around 750TB....

Culture

The dominant culture of Zuo’Hiraz is in the region Alqoun. It's the 'cradle of civilization' like the Mesopotamia region of of Earth. But it was able to maintain its dominance more or less for thousands of years. Their mythology is the inspiration for their scientific knowledge and legal codes like the Greco-Romans of Earth. The Hirazi elites idolize their ancient kings, especially Althara Yangi Tara, the founder of the ******** religion.

The other cultures of the world have contributed of course. Hirazi global interactions are very fluidic. there are thousands of cultures that have maintained themselves over the millenia unlike on other world.

Language

i don't have a pronunciation guide yet, but i'll get one up soon...but i have some basic language systems already...first off, is the gender determinative.... there are no gender specific names in the Hirazi language (like Federation Standard[English], is the lingua franca of the United nations Earth government and the Federation, Alquoni is the lingua franca of the Hirazi world government and the Coalition government but there are other languages native to Zuo'Hiraz)...so all Hirazi have 4 parts to their name....the given name...the determinative(either yangi or sangi [male or female, respectively....They're pronounced with a J sound instead of a hard G. ]).....the surname and clan name....[family and clan are not interchangeable names in Hirazi tradition]....most situation the given name, gender determinative and surname suffice...the clan name only applies during formal situation (such as being sworn into office, and other similar ceremonial functions).......the pronouns and family are also denoted by gender

Religion

The dominant Hirazi religion was founded over 8,000 years ago by the ancient Alqoun king Althara yangi Tara. Althara was a prince on a ritual hunt required of royalty in his culture when he was attacked by an animal he was hunting. He lied where he fell after killing his pray for 2 days before he was found and during the time, he had a series of visions. He told his family and friends and all who would listen to him about his visions. Eventually he became king when his father passed away a decade later and slowly his disciples started converting people into what eventually became a new religion. Althara did not consider himself a god or a prophet at all, just a messenger. Today, after 8,000 years, a large majority of Hirazi are his followers.


Government

(i don't have all the details with me so i'll add them asap) but the its a combination of the federal system of the US government and the soviet council system.....The people directly elect the local representatives [Gurtron], the Gurtron elects the planetary council[Bavras] and the Bavras elects the 3 representatives to the Musenta (similar to general council at the UN or the Federation council) and the Musenta selects the Ameltra (which must be approved by the Bavras)....

The Gurtron administers the particular member worlds and colonies, which are divided into districts (former nation-states) called Kairmegs

The Navy

I've designated the ships under the Starfleet Technical Manual/Starfleet Battles system: Frigate, Destroyer, Light/Heavy Cruiser system; the Hirazi have their own classifications of course.....the smallest ship maybe a 100 meters or so.......the largest would be about 700 meters or so.......just as the Federation and Klingons have a certain design no matter the era/size of the ship, the Hirazi have their own....with an angular boxlike shapes (designs can be found at http://stpma.net/viewtopic.php?p=30981#30981 ; scroll down to the bottom).

This should be really interesting! I love the culture and world-building, and I especially can't wait to see more of the language. I've been working on my own (for the Cardassians), so I'd certainly enjoy seeing how you approached it.

One of the stories that i'm working on is what inspired the various crew members of both ships to join Starfleet, and here's Brianna's story:

"Come on, Brianna!" yelled Edwin Johnston to his daughter.
Edwin and his wife Tai-yu have been planning this trip out for weeks. They've been promising their daughter that it will be amazing, but Brianna, being 10 years old, did not expect to find it so. She was getting to that dreaded period in life where she disagreed with anything her parents said just because they said it.

Finally after several minutes of fumbling to find her PADD, she ran out with her backpack and luggage and put it on the anti-grav. they walked out the door and put the luggage and other items in their conveyor and went to the local transportation hub. When they got there, Brianna was surprised to see the jumble of people walking through on their way to some destination. There was no more reaction to Brianna besides the initial surprise though. She went back to her PADD and messaging with her friends. Her dad chose not to keep fussing at her and put their bags on the transporter and had it sent to the hotel room that was already reserved for them. Then they got on the pads themselves and beamed out.

"Okay Brianna, we're here now." he announced and made a grand gesture towards the enormous building in front of them.
It was the Ethiopian Museum of Natural History. Brianna wasn't really all that impressed.

Noticing his daughter's utter lack of interest, he lead her and Tai-yu in anyway.

But once inside, seeing the amazing dinosaur bones and the holographic displays of the ancient giants' theorized appearance, Brianna seemed actually interested.

As they went from room to room looking at the amazing wonders discovered in this region of the world, Brianna put away her PADD and actually paid attention to the exhibits. The displays that really interested her though were for the Hominids. She'd learned of evolution and that Humans evolved from monkeys but this was the first time seeing what those ancestor species really looked like.

Later on they went to the Kenyan Natural History Museum and then the South African Natural Museum. In all of these, she was more interested in the Hominid displays than anything else. The dinosaurs and the ancient mammals were interesting too but not as much as the Hominids. She saw the holographic bones of Lucy, the Nariokotome Boy, australopithecines and the other branches of our ancestry. They also went to the art galleries and walked around Addis Ababa and Johannesburg. But for the rest of the three day vacation, all she was obsessed about was the Hominid displays at the museums.

_when they got back home, she downloaded all the stuff she could get on this enigmatic species. And as she was looking up the information, she learned that humans werent the only ones with primate ancestors, many other alien races were to. Dr. Richard Gallen and Starfleet Captain Jean Luc Pircard made that discovery a couple of years before she was born. She decided right then that she wanted to make a career out of it, in Starfleet, where she could meet those aliens and study their geologic ancestry too.

_After that everything changed, she got rid of all the stuffed animals she had of the usual stuff girls her age have and replaced them with stuff toys of australpithicenes. She got got a lot of Anthropology themed T-shirts, her favorite one being one that says 'I love Lucy' but instead of the ancient television star's face, it was the face of the australipith.

Reflections

Ambassador Tariq was on a yacht some distance upriver from Meshera and was admiring the beauty of the magnificent city while reflecting on the diplomatic mission she's on. These Hirazi are an amazing enigmatic race, she thought to herself. Even though the Federation crew members and civilian interns were completely alien in every way to their thinking process, they still interacted with them as if they were fellow beings in this sector. the welcome they received at the beginning of the mission was far more civil than many greetings they received in the Alpha Quadrant. the domicile in the posh Diplomat's Row district was extravagant beyond any the ambassador has ever stayed in the various Federation worlds she's gone to. These beings could bring shame to the enlightened Federation in it's treatment of alien beings and that's something she never expected when she was first contacted about this mission.
She had a beverage in her hand that was similar in texture to Earth's champagne and a local delicacy that's best described as kelp pasta was on the table, it tastes quite good despite it's odd green color. She was the guest of a local Dralbild, the lowest level council member in the Hirazi government hierarchy, he wanted to bring to her attention the local cuisine which she was now called Gilzdrim. she was quite glad he had; that was months ago but she loved the food so much that she was a frequent guest so that she could sample it when she can. the process of cooking it is not quite as simple as Earth spaghetti. it involved rinsing and pouring it, then cooking it again repeatedly then something beating it repeatedly with a paddle like instrument to let out as much as the planet's toxins as possible. this food was quite easily deadly if not prepared properly like the Japaanese puffer fish on Earth.
