Star Trek: Discovery

The Valerians are in trouble, their society is crumbling, their planet is dying and their whole race could be wiped out.
They were once a technological advanced species who prided themselves on their technology, now it is their technology that could be their downfall.
A Vulcan ship approaches to aid the Valerians assistance, but when they arrive, they are attacked by a Valerian ship and boarded.
The Vulcans are murdered and their weapons and supply are stolen by the Valerians....

Tiberius Chase takes command of the USS Discovery, and they begin a four year mission of exploration but Starfleet Command give them their first assignment.

They are to travel to Valeron and offer help and medical supplies to the Valerians who have asked to join the Federation.
Theyre first priority is to help the Valerians and give them medical equipment, their secondary objective is to assess them for entry to the Federation.
Ambassador Telerak joins the crew to help make contact with the Valerians.

The Discovery enters Valerian space and encounters an outpost, with many casualties, the survivors are brought aboard to sick bay.
A Valerian warship enters the area and opens fire on the Discovery, the Discovery takes heavy damage and the tactical officer deduces that the weapons being fired by the Valerians aren't their technology.
Captain Chase is alerted to a problem in Sick Bay, the Valerian brought aboard have taken over sick bay and taken the doctor and the medical team hostage and demand that Chase give them weapons and technology.

After the current predicament is over, they discover that the Valerian ship was using Romulan weaopons systems and the Discovery takes off for the Neutral Zone.

After entering Romulan space, they suffer a power failure, and work out there is someone aboard helping the Romulans and all suspisions fall on their Romulan tactical officer.

When they finally reach Romulus, they discover something much worse than they ever expected, a huge task force of warbirds ready to invade the Federation.
Captain Chase sets out to stop them before they can launch their fleet of ships by destroying their munitions base.
The Discovery is successful in destroying it after a battle with Romulan ships and apprehending the traitor aboard their ship.

The Discovery takes off back to Federation space after completing their mission, but they may not have ended the Romulan threat only delayed it.
Starfleet Command tells the Discovery to continue their mission of exploration.

This is my premise for a pilot for a new Trek Show. What does anyone think of this idea.

The only problem is, where to place it in the timeline of Trek...

1) Pre-Kirk Era, after the events of Enterprise and leading up to the Romulan War, which is where the Romulan storyline would come into.

2) Post Kirk Era, before the Next Generation, may run along the mission of Enteprise B or C.

3) Present Trek Timeline, after Nemesis, which could be an outcome to the Romulans after Nemesis and see the Romulans as the villains again.

4) Future Trek, 25th or 26th century, at first I wanted to avoid this period as technology would be too advanced, would be ridiculous, and spoil the show as theyre technology would rule any of the other species out as a threat but as long as this is done in a right way where technologies are still believeable and aliens can still be a threat to the Federation, it would be ok.

What option is best?

Characters

Commander Surock
Chief Tactical Officer aboard the Discovery, was born on a Romulan outpost but ended up on a warbird which was destroyed somehow.
His parents who served aboard the ship placed him on an escape pod before the ship was destroyed, his parents were then killed aboard the ship.
The escape pod was later picked up by a Vulcan research vessel, the boy was treated and then sent to Vulcan and adopted by Vulcan parents and raised as a Vulcan.
As he became a teenager, he fought with his Vulcan brothers who had already succeeded in supressing their emotions, he was then sent to an old Vulcan master to have his emotion supressed.
However he failed in doing this, and the Vulcan master gave up as he could not be helped. He was cast out by Vulcan society, he was frustrated and angry on Vulcan so he decided on going to Earth to enrol in Starfleet.
His first assignment after graduating from Academy was aboard a science vessel, he was a competent scientist but he was still frustrated and realised this was still not his calling.
After being granted a reassignment, he returned to Earth and joined Starfleet Security as an understudy, he enjoyed his placement and felt more enlightened. He decided to start meditating again to supress his emotions and has slightly succeeded although his emotions still play a big part in his life.
After spending time at Starfleet Command, he was assigned to another Starship, the Discovery, as Chief Tactical officer.

More to follow...

I'd make it a future (2378-79) mission for Captain Morgan Bateson & his new crew aboard the Legacy-Class starship, Mandela. The Titan's gone missing & that's what initially attracts them to the area along the Federation/Romulan Border when they're diverted to deal with the Discovery & the Vulcan ship under terrorist attack by the Valerians.

Man... you're really pimpin' that Bateson/Legacy class story-line. I know I've seen it in more than one thread now.

Ambassador T'Lev

Andorian Ambassador, famous for bringing the Andorians into the Federation and is an honoured diplomat.
He is headstrong and fearless, he doesnt suffer fools gladly. He left the Federation council after the Andorian outpost his family was on was destroyed killing them all.
He vows revenge on the aliens who did this, but after failing to find them, he returns to Earth but when a position aboard the Discovery is made available, he jumps at the chance to explore the galaxy and maybe find the ones responsible and to make them pay.

He doesn't care about any of the crew or anyone else as long as he gets his revenge and he may put the ship in danger just to get his revenge.

The time when the Discovery is set is as follows:

2331 - 15 Years before Captain Robert April took command of the USS Enterprise.

Starfleet Command has constructed the prototype Constitution class Starship on the Utopia Planitia Shipyards on Mars.
The new prototype starship is named the USS Discovery NCC-2009 and is given a four year mission of exploration.

Captain Tiberius Chase takes command of the Discovery.

The events of Discovery will lead up to events of the Original Series and will feature the growth of the Federation, it MAY feature the Romulan Wars, a time travel storyline involving the Eugenics Wars on earth will play a part and aliens and events familiar to the Original Series will be introduced.

Some Star Trek timelines have set the Romulan Wars just after the events of Enterprise, however this was never fully confirmed and a slight restructure to the early trek timeline may have to be done to fit the Romulan war into a more convenient place.

Everything places the romulan war after Enterprise.

Id set this past Nemesis.

Yeah maybe if it was a century after Nemesis, featuring some new bad ass aliens.

I quite liked the premise of that new animated trek they were thinking of doing, with it being much more darker than we're used to.

Lets say there hasn't been any exploration in about 50 or so years after a big war just pretty much ended the federation. Then Starfleet is ready to start exploring the galaxy again after a period of time and rebuild the federation.

This new starship could head out and find the galaxy much different to the way they left it. For example:

Vulcan is in civil war - split between vulcans who wish to use their emotions and those who wish to supress them.

Andoria has been destroyed by an unknown species - which may place an Andorian officer on this starship who is out for revenge.

Klingons have reverted back to the way they were in TOS.

What do people think of this?
