While starring a pair of characters from Discovery, in a lot of ways it's more of a TOS prequel novel. Like, if the exact same book came out two years ago, it'd still make sense just as the untold story behind "The Conscience of the King," unless you were really intent on a Hardy Boys thing with Kirk, Riley, and Tommy tracking down Kodos the Executioner after school.

But, wait! We know they won't find Kodos! What's the point of this!

Read it. It's pretty damned good. It's more TOS than DISC as far as I'm concerned.

But since it's part of the Discovery continuity it should be over there. You don't see any of that JJcrap here.

*I* made the decision to place it here. It is there as well.
I have read and reviewed the book. I knew it would be of *some* interest to open-minded TOS fans as the story is taken directly from The Conscience of the King - a TOS ep.
If that offends you, then skip the damned thread.

    End of discussion.

You do know JJ Abrams isn't involved in Discovery at all, right?

I believe the larger point is that DISCO isn't in the same continuity as TOS, much like Abrams films are not either.

I take that stance too and dislike STD, but apparently we're dealing with a novel that tries to cleverly stick it to us by respecting TOS and telling a good story. And we're not going to stand for that.

Seriously, dude? It's about 90% TOS. Open your mind.

Was it as good, would you say, as recent TOS novels?

    "Stick it to us?"

I don't get this at all.

It was a joke in the form of self-deprecating irony. Not everybody gets that; I shouldn't bother doing it.

The point was that this novel could end up being something STD-related that I like in spite of myself.

No matter what anyone thinks about DSC or TOS, shouldn’t this be in the Treklit forum?

Oh wait, there’s already a review thread for this book there. Carry on, I guess.
