You’ve seen Captains Benjamin Sisko and Worf with their crews of the U.S.S. Theseus and Defiant stop the fascist, god-killing clone Kahless II from declaring war on non-followers across the galaxy in a brutal battle on Qo’noS. But you haven’t seen it from the eyes of the man, the myth, the legend, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaxs!
From the writer behind the best-selling Lower Decks comics series, Ryan North, with esteemed artist Derek Charm (Jughead and Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl), comes a 30-page standalone tie-in to the Star Trek: Day of Blood event (Star Trek FCBD 2023, Day of Blood #1, Star Trek #11 and 12, and Defiant #6 and 7) detailing the Bajoran’s beast-mode brawl and showcasing all the behind-the-scenes Klingon-zealot butt-kicking in full animated glory!

No idea if these comics are any good, but the cover art is pretty rad. It's cool to see the secondary characters from Lower Decks assimilated into the wider, expanded Trek universe.

I guess tonally this would be a challenge to get right, but I actually wouldn't mind a serious Trek novel about Shaxs’ past. He's the one character whose backstory would be really nice to explore.

I'd love for him to get a given name... or at least confirm Shaxs is his mononym.

Yeah, I got the previous Lower Decks comics and while the story was amusing, it wasn't quite "Lower Decks". Even though Ryan North is an award winning comicbook writer, something about LD's comedic style is hard to get right, I think it probably needs the actual show writers.

The one-shot turned out pretty well, I thought. Having the single character and a specific story to adhere to, I think, made it a little stronger than the Lower Decks mini.

The comic series did actually give him a given name… which I thought was an odd choice, since it seems there’s a somewhat likely chance that it gets contradicted by the show at some point.

IIRC, this was only given in a single issue, and was only included in the cast of characters page in the beginning, as opposed to in-story (although it’s possible my memory is faulty on either of those two counts, so grain of salt and all), so it’s possible that detail was something that slipped through accidentally.

It's a cool name nonetheless. I hope LD goes with it. :techman:
