Voyager established in Canon the "Millennium Gate," which already sets us on a different path from Earth history established in Canon by a full 9 years. Also, didn't the Eugenics war take place in the 90s, with humans capable of Interplanetary travel? Then, World War III (in the wake of the Eugenics war) escalated to complete nuclear destruction starting in... 2026 and lasting through 2053? Then eventually throughout 2100s and in the wake of first contact world government and the elimination of poverty/war etc. DS9 sets into canon the "Gabriel Bell" madness which takes place about 11 years from now.
It seems like Voyager's Millennium Gate story, also "Friendship One" -- seem to go against the idea that Earth is recovering from a massive Eugenics war and is spiraling into a period of mass suffering. Doesn't the Voyager crew also travel to 1996 in the heart of the Eugenics war but everything is fine? Were there attempts to retcon this?
