Hey guys,

What do you all think of this star trek book collection:

(I think it doesn't belong in my forum, (CENSORED)! )

WoW!! What a price!! I picked up a mint copy of the blueprints on ebay last year for $17 and I got the Technical Manual just about 2 years ago for $25. I don't own the Concordance. I'll have to say that $160 is a weeeeeee bit expensive. Jus' Sayin'

EBay isn't the only place to look for collectibles. I've been on the hunt for Darkover fanzines and specific needlepoint books and it's been a fascinating introduction to online auction/sales sites, especially for a Canadian. It's also been an education in how much some people will gouge and then get abusive when you call them on it. Just yesterday I went looking for Star Trek collectible spoons (I have Kirk and Spock and wanted to see if I could find Scotty and McCoy). What I found was one person who had not one shred of shame in passing off an obvious FAKE for $$$. :scream:

BTW, I picked up the Concordance for its original price, when it first came out. I got the Technical Manual for Christmas, along with the Intergalactic Puzzle Book. I never did get the blueprints.

It's very doubtful you could find them in mint condition for that price. :vulcan:

To salvage this thread a little :

I started collecting Star Trek (TOS) books and comics on Ebay a couple of years ago, setting myself a rule of walking away if the book I was after went above $2.

So far I've collected hundreds of items, just gotta be patient!

^But do you get decent rates on postage? Any issues with customs fees?

My own eBay dealings with sellers based in Australia have gone very well, but I wasn't buying books. I've discovered that with books it really pays (so to speak) to look at sites other than eBay, since even though the price for an item may be great, the postage sometimes makes the deal not so good after all. :(

I've only ever bought books from people here in Australia, so on the rare occasion I'll buy a single book off a seller, I'll cop an extra $3 postage.

Trick is to go after sellers of multiple items and get them to combine the postage. Again, it's all about patience.

The only stuff I have bought from the states are toys and figures. I've never had to pay customs fees. Since an Australian dollar is now worth more than a US dollar, I have been grabbing toys like crazy and hiding them away for the kids in case the dollar drops back and makes collecting unaffordable again.

But, for now, it's a great time to be a TOS collector!

I always get a chuckle out of folks who slap some outrageous price tag on an old Star Trek item, thinking that because it's old and has something to do with Star Trek, it'll bring big bucks.
