Star Trek: Aurora Part 2 now available

Thanks again, all, I appreciate you taking the time to review Aurora, it can only help!

John, thanks for the comparison to Michaelangelo, tho I think the only thing I really have in common with him and his famous chapel is that that Aurora has/will take years to finish! And don't beat yourself up about your skill level, this 3D animation stuff has a long learning curve--at least I think it's a curve: so far all I've seen is upward slope...

Well, I was thinking more of the disparity in skill levels . . . but you're quite welcome. [grin]

Yeah. Upward slope. That's the curve I've seen so far. And I've been so busy re-arranging my Poser files to cut down on duplications, repair broken links and so forth that I haven't had any time to actually try anything.

Best of luck, though, on the remaining parts. And if Poser Pro's new capability to render on multiple machines works across the 'net as well as locally, I'll happily donate CPU cycles to the cause. [grin] (Not that we'll find out until Poser Pro is released in the fall . . .)

Also, Just Bob, if you're interested in Poser, they are coming out with "Poser Pro" this Fall, which will have a plugin to allow Poser to work with Lightwave (and other apps like Cinema 4D, which I use).--Tim

Hey Just Bob,

Here's something I do when learning a new subject. I see that you have bought several forms of training. That is excellent.

Go through the 1st chapter of ALL of them, do all the basic exercises, then go through chapter 2 of ALL of them and do all of the exercises. See where I am going with this.

The constant reinforcement of the basics will build you a more solid foundation to learn the advanced topics later.

I found this approacjh to work quite well for me over the last couple of decades.

Thanks for taking the time to offer the advice, It is much appreciated. :) I tried to be as logical as possible when I selected the training material.

1. Lightwave v9 Signature Courseware: beginner to intermediate level. DVD

2. LW 3D Project Viper vol. 1: Advanced modeling. DVD

3. LW 3D Project Viper vol. 2: Advanced texturing and rendering. DVD

4. Volumes 1 and 2 of Gerald Abraham's Digital Car Studio: Spline and subdivision surface modeling. DVD

5. Lightwave v9 Texturing. Book

6. Essential Lightwave v9. Book

Lighting and animation will be the next stop after I have completed the above material.

Yes, sir! I am very interested in Poser and C4D. My son has a commercial lic. for C4D and luckily he lives with me so I have access. Eventually I want to do character modeling but I intend to have a go at Poser. I guess I'll have to pry open the wallet yet again this fall. :D

In the end, I really would enjoy being involved in a fan production when my skills and work flow are better developed .
