Even as a kid, I appreciated that The A-Team was a spoof of all those endless Vietnam revenge movies. A major motion picture needs to be an Action Comedy with the emphasis on Comedy. I've never laughed once at anything Liam Neeson starred in. He's pretty wooden and probably can't deliver lines tongue in cheek.
You know The A-Team would actually benefit from that Starsky and Hutch homage treatment, casting actors who can be the same versions of Howling Mad, Face, Smith and B.A. from the 1980's, while poking fun at the fashions. Updating them to be Gulf War or Iraq A.W.O.L.s just misses the point altogether and ditches that cool nostalgia factor even shows like Family Guy pick up on these days. It ceases to be about those real Soliders of Fortune and simply a Three Kings rip-off about Army buddies ripping off an invaded country and escaping with the loot.
