Two words: Gorn hatchling!
These are very cool. Can you explain your process?
Thanks!
I've considered attempting a Gorn, but haven't tried it yet.
The process is long but simple. I start with what's called a “kit”, a blank vinyl head and limbs. These are produced by sculptors, who make the as detailed as possible to help the final product's realism.
I create skin tones, veins, capillaries, mottling, and other details using Genesis heat set oil paint. I do one thin layer at a time, so that each layer is visible through the next one. Each layer is baked to set the pain, the cooled before the next one goes on. When the painting is done, the parts are varnished for durabilty, and to give them a soft skin feeling.
After painting comes hair. Sometimes I give them painted hair, but the babies here have “rooted” hair. I used high quality mohair that has been dyed and conditioned. I put it into the vinyl 1-2 hairs at a time using a tiny felting needle. This is the most time-consuming part of the process. Then I apply a sealer to the inside of the head to keep the hair from coming out.
Then they're weighted and stuffed. They have a cloth body, and I weight them so that they will rest in your arms like a real baby. When you hold one it feels like you're holding a real baby. Their heads flop back and must be supported, etc.
That's the basic process. I hope this wasn't too boring, lol. Thanks for your interest!
