Star Trek - 4 In A Row

Sitting here disappointed in what I've seen thus far from JJ Abrams' Star Trek , I busted out my Season 1 DVD set. So I picked the disc with the following four episodes:

Return of the Archons
A Taste of Armageddon
Space Seed
This Side of Paradise

It is incredible how entertaining this show still is after all these years (I've seen all of them at least a dozen times each). Not a bad one in the bunch. Maybe my expectations of the new Trek were just to high.

Tomorrow night I'll grab a disc from my Season 3 set... perhaps the one with All Our Yesterdays and Turnabout Intruder.

I'm purposely avoiding and ignoring anything about it until I've seen it. Then, and only then will I hate it. *grin?*

I watched Bread and Circuses last night and had thoughts of "why can I watch these over and over?" I can't do that with all these other series I have on DVD. They all have to wait so many years before repeated viewings. But Star Trek, I can just sit and watch over and over. Is it because I was trained to do so for all those syndicated years? I don't think so, I can't even watch a Gilligan's Island or a Brady Bunch without being susceptible to projectile vomiting. My only tentative conclusion is the quality they put into it. All of it. I've never liked Star Trek for the lofty "hopeful future for mankind" deal. It's always been an adventure show that happened to quite often be thought provoking (hey, I was young in Sept '66, so phasers and the Enterprise were "COOL!").

I'm am guardedly non-pessimistic only because of Nimoy's involvement. I'll find out just how much I hate it next spring when it is released. My biggest worry of the moment is hearing the Enterprise has been redisgned. That's a problem for me, as the Enterprise was always one of the "big three" "characters" for me. (yes, my math is a bit faulty? *grin*). So for me, back to my hands on my ears, eyes closed and continuously chanting "naaaa-naaaaa-naaaa-naaaa."
