It’s interesting, particularly after the first pilot didn’t sell, that absolutely no one could have had any inkling whatsoever how successful Star Trek would be in the long term. Even when it went to series the likely prevalent thought was it would run its course then fade away as just another forgotten TV series. No one then could see the reach it would have.
It’s easy to look at Star Trek and nitpick it over things we wish had been done better, but its legacy is that it did far more things right than it got wrong.

Wait a minute...you mean to tell me that one of my favorite scenes in all Star Trek was filmed just two days before my dad was born!? THAT'S SO COOL!!!
