Hey guys. Been FOREVER since I posted here. Some of you may remember this model when I initially previewed it. For those of you that don't, here's the basic rundown:

This model is intended to be the SFB equivalent to the movie-era Enterprise. Since ADB doesn't own the rights to use anything beyond TOS, they have to come up with their own version of ships from that era so as not to incur the ire of Paramount. That responsibility has fallen to me.

I tried to come up with something that invoked the feeling of the TMP Enterprise, while changing enough of the details that it felt distinct and avoided the onslaught of the Paramount attack lawyers. It's kind of a mixture of the TMP and Phase II Enterprise, with a a lot of ADB details and my own little touches thrown in.

Anyway, here it is so far. It's not quite done. The only area I really have to finish is the warp engines. But this will give you a good sense of how it's going to look:

Nice! Really graceful lines with enough mechanical design to look like they really stretched the envelope making it. I like the understated decals. I still feel that the Phaser balls are too big, though. Other than that, she's sweet.

    Very eye-catching!

There's one minor detail that might set this off even more: use the TOS block-style lettering for the hull markings. I have to admit the stylized, disco era typeface used from TMP forward never looked right to me.

I like the red stripes on the topside of the saucer. I think more beauty striping should be applied to other surfaces of the ship, including the outboard nacelle pylons and the saucer's underbelly.

After looking over the images showing the nacelles, I think the inboard-grillework showing the glowing part needs to be toned down. It's a little too TMP/TNG-ish.

Looks sweet. The only critiques I have is that I've never cared for the egg-shaped bussard collectors, and the nacelles look like they could stand to be a little bigger. Other than that, it looks great. :techman:

I really like where your going with the Fed X-ships -- good work.:techman:

I also concur with the statement about the lettering -- go with the TOS block lettering instead.

    Cheers

For an alternative font, try something like Dev Gothic.

Looks great! Like others, I do have a suggestion -- your ship is full of sweeping, graceful lines. The engine pylons in particular look great. Because of this, the hard edges and "flat" forward and aft edges of the interconnecting dorsal seem out of place to me. I'd like to see the neck "smoothed out," perhaps made to resemble more closely the TOS ship's neck.

Wow...I like it...especially the nacelles! :techman:

Now, (standard question coming....) - Any chance you can put it up with some killer background images so that we can use as wallpaper?

I'm trying to do a daily starship wallpaper rotation. :)

    Simply beautiful.

Honestly, I like everything about it. The nacelles seem like a logical evolutionary step between the cylindrical nacelles on the TOS Enterprise and the flatter TMP versions. This is an elegant and graceful design - very, very well done!
