Sports day BUBBA!

Well..for many of us, on Dec 22 2008, it is raining or snowing. Where I am in San Diego we are bracing for three storms this week...so it got me thinking of spring time. You know, when you can go outside and play some catch with your kids. Throw a football, or kick a soccer ball around.

Star Trek has had interesting elements of sports, not many, but some. What was your favorite use of a sport, whether it a real sport or a Star Trek created sport, whether it was being played or just mentioned..and, likewise, what was the worst use of "sport" in Star Trek.

Best: the tumbling scene in Charlie X.
Worst: the target practice scene with Hoshi and Reed. Gawd, what crap!

My favorite sports episode is DS9's Baseball episode...well written fun..

My least favorite? Dom'jat...it doesn't seem that '24th century' enough to me..just low budget pool

Not that we've ever seen it in action, but I always liked the idea of Pareses Squares, for some reason. In my own mind, I've kinda created a form for the game.

Worst? Maybe that pocket Dom'jat game that Jake played with.

Best- "Take me out to the Holosuite" because, mostly, the episode was funny.

Worst, not really a "sport" but "Move along Home" because... it speaks for itself...

Another sports mention I liked was Capt. Archer and his love for water polo. I just found it a good character bit that I thought added a dimension to him and his friendship with Trip.

Tsunkatse. Because I have a chance at winning ;)

I liked the Britishness of Darts and 'Take me out to the Holosuite' as an ep based on modern sports - though a fiend who was in the unknown Scottish baseball league hated it.

I liked "Take Me Out to the Holosuit" because I have had a few coaches in my time who forgot that the fun of the game can not be lost behind a heavy curtain of discipline...and Sisko seemed to learn this lesson.

I thought it was well done, and Baseball never looked so good in TREKdom...

I would have like to have seen Pareses Squares. It sounds like fun. I thought the version of racquetball that Picard and Jono were playing in "Suddenly Human" looked just plain boring.

I'm with you. Even DOM'JOT looks like pool, slowed down. I actually think oldBSG did a better job creating 'new' games for their scifi show. That basketball kind of game they play, the Pyramid card game, both come to mind.

Fizbin beats them all though..wink wink...
