SPOILERS - Preservers in Shatnerverse books

Following on kind of from my post about the Preservers and the Aegis, can anyone explain to me just what the Preservers are up to according to the Shatnerverse novels? I remember reading in one of them a line about all those duplicate Earths being just decoys to divert the Federation's attention away from them, or something to that effect.

Then there's the part with the Preserver device orbiting Halkan in the Mirror Universe. Was that put there by the Preservers of the MU, or those of the mainstream timeline?

Okay, it's been a long time since I've read Preserver, so bear with me.

I remember reading in one of them a line about all those duplicate Earths being just decoys to divert the Federation's attention away from them, or something to that effect.

Not quite. I recall that the duplicate Earths (and Andors, as Preserver says that several duplicate Andors have been discovered) were believed to be sociological experiments by the Preservers. The real Earth was the "control," basically, and the duplicate was the test subject.

The problem with the Mirror Universe was that its existence threatened the results the Preservers were looking for, as the existence of an entire duplicate universe would make people aware of the experiment, thus tainting the results.

Was that put there by the Preservers of the MU, or those of the mainstream timeline?

I think there was only one set of Preservers, across the entire multiverse. The Preservers were outside of time and space.

^I thought the MU had nothing to do with the Preservers?

It didn't.

However, the Preservers wanted to destroy the Mirror Universe because it made the species they were testing aware that they were being tested. It was an unplanned for complication in their experiments.

Wasnt there some connection to the First Federation as well? Never managed to read the last book Preserver so dont know whats there but I did remember reading something about Emperor Tiberius looking for some First Federation vessels to use on some inter-dimensional campaign of conquest. Details are hazy though.

I believe Tiberius was coming to our universe to take the First Federation vessels since the FF didn't exist in his. I believed they were wiped out by the Emperor in his universe.

Haven't read the book for a very long time so this may be completely wrong.
