(*SPOILERS Possible*) "Compassion/Form 102 TARDIS" Question

Hello, Doctor Who Fans!

While I have been a fan of the program for years, I have not yet read any of the literature or heard the various audio plays (Being on this side of the Big Pond makes those things a bit more difficult).

I REALLY enjoy the concept of the TARDIS, and have been intrigued to read references to "Compassion", apparently a companion of the Eighth Doctor that is actually a Form 102 TARDIS that can take on the form of a walking, talking human.

I am curious. How does one travel with Compassion? Just take her hand and off you go through the Vortex? Does one just walk "through her" and you're in a Console Room, or does Compassion transition into a Police Box (or some other form) that presents a traveller with a portal to walk through?

from what I have read, she turns into a sort of doorway, similar to that of the ones featured in the coolest stangest sci-fi movie of all time.. Time Bandits!..but yeah, it looks like the doorway they fall through in that movie..and then she morphs back..when she wants to be in that human form once more..

if you watch this trailer, the part with the minotaur and Sean Connery, the kid falls from the sky.. that is what it looks like, only you are walking into the Tardis..not the blackness of time-space..

I had done some Google searching, but I did not locate anything that answered my question like someone who had read the books would be able to do. I may need to track down some literature and explore more myself. It all sounds interesting. Thank you!
