Spock vs. Data vs. Odo

All were good characters, but had to go with Spock. Data seemed a little too forced as a character, where Spock - and even Odo - seemed to evolved more organically from the situations and stories.

I would say that Phlox would be a good candidate from Enterprise as he was actively wanting to learn and know more about humanity while at the same time commenting on human foibles and not rejecting his own culture.

Yeah, Phlox was intended as the outside character far more than T'Pol.

For these three, it's a tough choice. When I was a kid, I thought Data was awesome. However, thinking about it more, I realize how cool Spock is. So, in a tight race, I guess I'll go with the original Vulcan.

I think Odo is the ultimate outsider; sent off by the Founders at such an early age he has no knowledge of his species culture and didn't bother to adapt too strongly to any other cultures beliefs. Of course the Odo you see isn't his true form, he has changed his body to be accepted by everyone else and resents them all for having to do it, then at the end of the day he has to revert back to a pile of goo.

Although people may not have understood Spock's Vulcan mysticism/culture at least at the end of the day he still ate and (presumably) crapped every now and again, so although he's an alien you can relate to him.

Although Data is a machine and very different he was created by a human and so has ties to humanity, especially when he received his emotion chip.

So for me it's Odo, Data then Spock.

Yeah, I'm a hardcore Niner. But in this case, tempting as it was to vote for Odo, I just had to go with Spock!

People,

Being an old school TOS fan, I of course voted for Spock. Of all three, his character is the best handlled and face it, he's the original ST outsider.

I think of Data as a close second to Spock, a worthy successor to his ST predecessor. I think of Odo as a close third.

What's missing from this poll, of course, are the chief outsiders from VOY and ENT. I like the Doctor and Seven, but am not crazy about T'Pol.
