Spike dumping Trek?

I think Spike has dropped DS9 since I can’t find it on any schedules now. Now Voyager is on at 3am ET in the morning, which is an hour later than DS9's former showing. Though there were other times Spike skipped DS9 and showed the next episode couple of weeks or so after the previous episode, I think this time they're dropping it for good. Spike’s probably dropping DS9 since it’s 5 year contract is up. Spike would probably dump Voyager too if weren’t for it’s contract that started in 2007. So Spike is doing the next best thing and relegating Voy to the late night hours, and probably only 3 episodes a week like DS9. Maybe one of these days another network will pick up both DS9 and Voyager. Spike TV: the official channel for CSI and police chase videos.

DS9 airing rights for spike are up this year.. I posted this in a similar thread:

The problem is because in 2000 The National Network (TNN) bought the syndication rights to TNG (to air is 2002), DS9(to air in 2004) and Voyager (to air in 2006). They could not show Voyager until 2006. In those 6 years TNN evolved into Spike (2004) and changed there type of programming, thus phasing out these Star Trek series (putting DS9 and Voyager in crappy slots etc..). Since they got to show TNG early (2002) that got a ton of air time. The final nail in the coffin was when Spike got airing rights to CSI that got higher rating and thus they now play all the time, Spike also recenty got rights to CSI:NY so thats moving in to. If TNN were alowed to show Voyager at the same time they had show TNG (2002) then it would have been on all the time, it is just a victim of bad timing and changing network direction.

A very similar thing happened with the Babylon 5 spin-off Crusade, TNT wanted to go that route and then they decided (during its first season) to go more the crime drama route with airing rights to Law & Order. Crusade was cancelled. TNT pretty much moved away from scifi and now Spike has done the same thing.

also..

Spike's 5 year contract window for DS9 is over this year (2004-2009), Voyagers is over in 2011 (2006-2011). Tng's was up in 2007 (2002-2007) and subseqently Scifi bought the rights to TNG (probably also for 5 years, not sure though) , Scifi also has Enterprise but if its also a 5 year window with them they would lose it in a year or 2. TVland has old TOS, while Remastered TOS still remains in local market syndication

We were lucky Spike aired VOY in the afternoon at all. It had a good run for a bit before all of the CSI shows took over.

The biggest problem is there was six years from when they bought the rights to when (2006) they were allowed to show, anything can change during 6 years. TNG got it the best because they were allowed to show it in 2002, before Spike, before CSI or any good programing on that network. DS9 started ok in 2004 but got caught in the transition.

Yeah, six years is a long time. When you think about it VOY was just getting over back when these contracts were being negotiated. I remember when TNG was first running on TNN and wishing 2006 would hurry up so I could watch VOY again.

Star Trek just doesn't fit on Spike. You've got Ultimate Fighting, MANswers, and 'Caught on Tape' shows, and then a space show about Bajorans and Prophets? It just doesn't blend with their core market - testosterone filled guys! You could tell they were showing it because they had to because it was never advertised. In Canada, Space (similar to SciFi) now shows ALL Star Trek series.

DS9 ended on Spike with The Visitor I think, a fitting episode to end on.

To be honest Spike pisses me off with the way they have shown the shows. I only DVR them and they have repeatedly not shown them on time and their banners have become intrusive. I tried hard to enjoy The Vistior knowing there were no more eps on the schedule but they had some message about a cable company not carrying spike flashing across the screen after evey commercial break. Now that trek is done for the most part on Spike, I am done with Spike. I did my Voyager marathon from late 2007 into 2008 recording every episode. Spike fucked that up btw: they didn't show the episode near the end of season 7 when Neelix stayed behind.

Cya spike. I would like Sci Fi to put DS9 on there and do like they did with classic Trek a few years ago (maybe 5-6 years). Remember they had commentary from the cast along with the episodes? That was great.

What they have to make room for more CSI Marathons. Good Lord it's like that and TNA and UFC are the only things that channel carries.

It was and if they could get permission to do something similar for other Treks, maybe just using stuff recorded for the existing DVDs, this would be a treat for fans.

I so wish Australia's sci-fi channel would show much less trek. We've got episodes every day, they flood our weekends and monday nights...

I would like to see less trek, more other series.

Then again they do the same with stargate here, they show way too many, out of order as well. It's tedious for someone that may wanna watch the show in order so they actually understand whats going on in the galactic arena.

"Oh, last episode jack was the leader of sg-1, this ep its that mitchell bloke, wait, now jacks a general? Now that other dudes a general? Now the bald guys general again?"

Yes Spike has dropped DS9 due to their loss of the rights to it (their ownership ended the beginning of this year). They still have Voyager for I believe two more, but they moved its time slot to that of Seven Days - 3am - due to its rights being purchased by Sci-Fi.

Yup, This time in 2011 spike will no loger have rights to Voyager, I sure some network would pick it up since it still is one of the new trek shows and only had a full run on UPN and not that great of a run on spike, so other networks may believe that Voyager would get good viewing. TOS and TNG have really been all over the place whereas DS9 and Voyager have not have anywhere near the exposure.
