If she committed crimes, then arrest her and put her up before a judge with an attorney.

But don't pretend that the Gestapo thugs that kidnapped (not arrested), detained, tortured and eventually killed Jean's sister have any legitimacy or authority to prosecute crimes or that Jean should be required to surrender to them. If legitimate authorities were after her you might have a leg to stand on...

Damage Control, a Federal Agency like ICE or the DEA have the complete right to chase suspects and shoot back at any one who looks at them funny. Did we see them do locker searches in Ms. Marvel? (Google disagrees with this assessment, but fuck'em. Private company, come government Contractor?)

Although just like Homeland Security got broad powers from The Patriot Act, Damage Control must have found specialized latitude from the Sokovia Accords.

And if she were taken into custody, where do you think she would have wound up? That the Gestapo thugs wouldn't have shown up at the precinct and said "we're taking over now" taking her into custody and she never would have been seen again? Did you even watch the movie?

I did. Did you read my post on it? The Department people would have course picked her up, but if they didn't the police would have charged her.

You said, "If legitimate authorities were after her you might have a leg to stand on... " and I was responding to that.

The only way to catch a discrete homo-plus like Jean and Sarah would be with TV spots, like X-Factor used in the 80s. Telling anyone who wants 500 dollars, to report on their neighbours as being threats to the American way of life, which is going to lead to a lot of false positives.

In the 50s, how much would the FBI pay for your snitching on a suspected communist?

In the 1950s, the FBI did not offer a standard "bounty" for single tips about suspected communists; instead, they paid recurring monthly stipends to confidential informants, which typically ranged from $15 to $85 per week ($70 to $340 per month) depending on the informant's access and the usefulness of their data. Adjusted for inflation, these historical payments are equivalent to roughly $850 to $4,000 per month today. [1, 2, 3]
During the height of the Red Scare, the FBI relied heavily on a vast network of informants to penetrate the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). [1, 2]

And this crap is still going on in the world today...
The X-Men feel more relevant than ever.

I asked A.I. about Damage Control to confirm shit I already knew, so some pecker-head didn't get to call me a know nothing feeb if I was mistaken about common knowledge again, but A.I. didn't know the difference between "movie-lore" and "comics-lore" and then conflated the two different origin stories. HAL fucked up in a way that I did not quickly quantify, but regardless I didn't believe that god forsaken toaster for a tap dancing picosecond because Robots are always trying to screw me.

Obviously there are people in this thread who are going to be rooting for the sentinels when they arrive.

There are levels.

1. Obedient robots working for a racist supervillain.
2. Obedient robots working for the government, without a mandate.
3. Obedient robots establishing the will or at least %51 of the electorate.
4. Independent Rogue Robots out to get mutants, because programming and racist core beliefs.
5. Independent Rogue Robots out to get all of humanity, even the flattest flatscans, because it's the only way to be sure that you get them all... Or you know you destroy the Sun, because all mutation is the responsibility of solar radiation. Seriously, that's how Cyclops saved the day once, when all seemed lost. He convinced the superior robotic intelligence to fly into space, and kill the sun to end the ongoing mutant threat. And they did. 98 million miles. I doubt they are half way there and it's been half a century.
6. Nimrod, future time traveling Sentinel, lost in the past, actually got to a point where he was "over it" and decided to live a normal human life, because any other choice was dumb. Then the Siege Perilous evolved him into "Bastion" and all bets were off.

^ The single greatest failing of the OT. Vader's last-second act of pure self-interest was not redemptive in nature or heroic, nor does it erase the 20+ years he spent committing genocide and totalitarian rule across the galaxy. Although Lucas did not intend the following to be true, ROTS-Anakin only reinforced the fact Anakin/Vader was a truly irredeemable person, and would remain so for the remainder of his life.
I always felt that way too. Throwing the Emporer down the shaft does not "redeem" him from the mass murder he was responsible for.

Are those the only people Anakin/Vader killed? Not likely.

As a thrall to the Dark Side, who he killed was not completely Vader's decision, and his conscience was clearly weighted to the upside of cleaving 4 year olds into partially BBQed chunks.

Earlier as a "normal" person, taught right from wrong, prepared to be held accountable for his worst choices, without carrying the dispensation of a soldier during war time, the Sand People were probably his worst atrocity, but honestly if that's the sort of danger that got his wife hot under the collar, Anikan probably often, later on, Took Padme to active war-zones, and put on an elicit show.

Vader's final turn was not anticipated by either Yoda or Obi-Wan (forever will it dominate your destiny). While it doesn't redeem his actions, it's interesting to consider that the act of stepping back to the light after being slaved to Palpatine and the Dark Side for so long was in itself an extraordinary act of will once thought impossible.
