Speed 3: The Lake House

Okay, this thread has nothing to do with the Speed franchise, but it is about The Lake House, the 2006 movie that reunites Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in a love story with a twist. The movie is about two people who start communicating by mail when Kate, played by Sandra Bullock, writes to the new tennant of a lake house asking to have her mail forwarded. The "new" tennant who receives her mail and responds to her is Alex, who's played by Keanu Reeves. The two of them quickly discover that they're living two years apart. Kate lives in 2006 and Alex lives in 2004. As the movie unflolds, they fall for eachother and carry on a love affair through time. I won't spoil the movie for you too much, but it's a fun and intriguing movie. Kate has the advantage of knowing the next two years, and Alex has the advantage of looking in on Kate's 2004 counterpart. I found myself fixated on the story, wanting to see how everything would unfold. I was especially curious to see what happened to Alex in 2006, Kate's present. One of the movie's big flaws is that Kate never bothered to look up Alex in her present, but otherwise, I liked what I was watching. How did it end? I won't tell you. All I will say is that it was a pretty enjoyable time-travel story that you have to really pay attention to.

Have any of you seen this movie? If so, what did you think of it?

I liked the movie. I went home and thought about the movie, and I realized that it makes absolutely no sense to me. If you go and suspend disbelief, it's a good film.

I jenjoyed it. Until the
temporal paradox restores Reeves' character to life, the movie is a fresh but consistent ghost story! The happy ending feels tacked on and arbitrary. An internally plausible ending would have made for a stronger movie.

I took a girl to see this movie in theaters...and she slept with me shortly thereafter so I may be biased, but I didn't think it was such a bad movie.

^

I like pardox themes, and time travel (can't wait for The Time Traveller's Wife...excellent book!) even if it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense! (speaking of, Sandra Bullock was in another paradox type movie, Premonition, which I enjoyed as well :techman:)

I saw this film less than a year ago. I had completely forgotten it existed until I saw this thread.

So what's going on with Lake House 2? I heard Sandra Bullock's coming back but they replaced Keanu with Jason Patric. :)

I liked it, even if the ending makes NO SENSE, but it's a fluff romance film...so it had to end that way.

I actually much prefer the original 2000 South Korean film Il Mare, in which The Lake House was based upon:

I don't know anything about The Lake House, but when I saw Speed 3 in the thread title I was hoping maybe it would be about the Father Ted episode... :rommie:

Yeah I feel the same as you.

Does it actually make sense?

Is this in reference to the US or Korean movies?

Until the end, the US version is
a kind of ghost story---Sandra Bullock is being haunted by the ghost of Keanu Reeves from the moment she fails to save his life in the auto accident. From Reeves' perspective, Bullock is a variation on a fetch---an apparition that presages death. The appearance of artifacts is an old notion in spiritualism. Such things had their own jargon term, apports.

The temporal paradox, however, is like all temporal paradoxes---senseless. If it made sense, even a peculiar kind like causal loops, it wouldn't be a paradox.

I still like Lake House pretty well, but it definitely wimped out on the ending. I like Premonition okay but it could have used another strong lead.

Getting back on topic, wasn't there an industry rumor earlier this year about Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock teaming up again for a real Speed 3?
