Speculation On Political Themes In STXI

Status
Not open for further replies.
Trek tends to assume wealth.

It certainly has assumed a lot of my wealth over the years. That said, another amazing post, further inflating my crush on Lapis.

It'll be one big anti-Iraq, anti-Bush, America sucks, pro Obama ad.

Wouldn't something pro-Obama be pro-American?

Or does "America" now equal "Republicans?"

Danger, Will Robinson, danger!

Let sleeping dogs lie!

No. Better a thread get closed than someone gets to run around essentially calling anyone who disagrees with his politics "unpatriotic" without that statement being challenged.

Let's keep this "Liberals Hate America" BS in TNZ, where it can get the full mocking it deserves.

I started this thread and I'm happy to see it closed if it'd actually improve the political discourse, but I seriously that will change anything. I intentionally shied away from any sort of political argumentativeness in my original post, and am happy to see that the majority of comments on the thread have been constructive and interesting.

Ignore those who'd rather whine incoherently about their unfortunate dissatisfaction with the state of real world politics, and everything ends up fine, honest.

I think it's a fine subject to discuss. You just might be able to take off the gloves in TNZ.

I'm a n00b and don't know what TNZ is, unfortunately.

However, I do know what the Lizard People reference is all about, and I'm in awe at your fantastic avatar. I might steal it once my initial two weeks are up and I can be a confused Gorn who may or may not have voted for Al Franken.

Honestly I don't care what the politics of this new film is just like I haven't cared what the politics of Trek has been for the last 21 years. It's a very good show and that's why I watch it.

All I care about is that any message it does have is not overt, in-your-face or ham-handed like most of the bullshit that comes out of Hollywood. After two goddamn years of non-stop politics I'm damn tired of being preached at by either side of the arguement.

At this point I'm taking advantage of my first amedment rights to say "Shut the fuck up, I don't care."

I do not hold Pro-Obama or Anti-Bush to mean someone is unpatriotic on unamerican, nor are opposing viewpoints regarding Bush or Obama.

FYI, the Unpatriotic charge is based on the idea of premature withdawal from Iraq, percieved by many as a cut and run policy, coupled with the idea of raised taxes, which subliminally reminds many of Socialism, a close cousin to Communism.

The charge is vastly overblown, but not without reason.

Onto the real reason for this thread:

I think they still have money of a sort in the 23rd and 24th Centuries. How many times have we heard reference to Credits?

How many times have we seen commercial establishments?

Money might be handled differently, but it still exists in some form.

It will be interesting to see if the movie can encompass any political allegory, especially since the political climate has changed radically with the economic downturn.

TOS, made in the 60s, ... <SNIP!>

Great stuff LE. :)

Hopefully this thread won't derail into TNZ land. So I offer this comment from 'Free Enterprise' writer/producer Mark Altman...

Posted @ Trekmovie.com

Hopefully, in this fucked up world we live in, J.J. can tap into the same sense of hope and optimism that the original Trek captured in the wake of the Kennedy New Frontier and it’s no accident that Obama-mania and the resurrection of Trek have coincided so perfectly.
