Spectre of the Gun

hey guys its me again, with another great episode, of TOS,this time its Spectre of the Gun,now this episode to me was of the best outta season 3 i enjoy it very much one my top ten, what your take love it hate it & why.

Hey, Zakk. Well, I hate to disagree, but Spectre is one of my least favorite S3 eps. Certainly there are worse eps (And the Children Shall Lead, Plato's Stepchildren), but I just didn't care for the minimalist Western sets, and found the actors who played Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday a bit wooden.

IMHO, “Spectre of the Gun” is ALMOST a triumph of style over substance. I found the theatrical, minimalist sets eerie and fascinating. But the story? Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Chekov and Scotty are forced to re-enact the gunfight at the O.K. Corral? I mean, WTF??? And Kirk sure seems to know a lot about this relatively minor incident in American history -- although I suppose that can be explained by his ancestors having been Old West pioneers (as we're told in a bit of convenient exposition).

While its not one of my top favorite, I find if very enjoyable for the reasons that scotpens did and didn't like it.

I like the sets and style--always thought "Spectre" and "Empath" would make great stage plays.

I don't find it surprising Kirk knew so much about the OK Corral. He was a bit of a history buff. Seemed to know a lot about 19th century US history.

I love the episode thought it was so funny when Kirk tried to explain to the bar tender Ed who he really was and he just started laughing any other thoughts on this episode

The idea was intriguing, but I just couldn't buy them as the Earps, Clantons, etc.

Though DeForest Kelley had enough experience at the OK Corral previous to that episode. He played Ike Clanton on TV in 1955, and Morgan Earp two years later in the film "The Gunfight at OK Corral."
