Spectacular helicopter crash in NZ caught on camera

I'm not quite sure here who to blame, but that whole thing looks spectacularly incompetent. Why would you have a helicopter maneuvering among all those wires?? :cardie:

I'm glad, at least, that no one died as a result.

in that third angle it looks like something in the tail broke, you can see it go just as the helicopter starts to shake and break apart.

The crew on the ground are lucky to have escaped, as well.

What exactly happened? It's hard to see exactly, from any angle. Did he hit his own guide wire or one of the tower's cables?

The guide wire refused to detach from the helicopter so he tried to bring the chopper down without hitting the wire (or hopefully slice through it if it did happen). Unfortunately it snagged the main rotor, the sudden tension and torque causing immediate structural failure in the tail, and the whole thing fell to earth.

Yeah, saw that on the news. It's amazing how the helicopter just disintegrated. Glad to hear nobody was hurt though.

Another example of Kiwi Darwinism, the company concerned are 'Kiwi Owned and Operated' - this is a warning not to bother rather than a selling point.
