Species from past books that you would like to see more of?

Sadly, the one I want will never happen in Trek again - the Kzinti. I can't imagine them getting away with the "M'dok" thing from Captain's Honor again.

There are so many others! I'd love to have a few "planet of the week" aliens crop up again. It's been about 20 years in-universe since the TNG numbered novels, 100 since the TOS ones, 200 since the first few Enterprise novels. What became of all these aliens?

The Hive (DS9: Objective: Bajor)
Herans (TNG: Infiltrator)
Teuthis (NF: After the Fall, MIA)
Ngultor (Early Voyages comic)
Chakuun (Early Voyages comic)
Bodai Shin (TNG comic: The Killing Shadows)
Nuyyad (TNG: The Valiant)
Ubarrak (STA: Oblivion)

There was a really interesting one in a TNG number novel that I can't remember the name of. The character who is a friend of Wesley's and maybe a cadet is from a race where rudeness is see as a sign of genetic damage and the correct response is to instantly kill anyone who shows this behaviour. Later in the book, the character kills someone and can't understand what all the fuss is about.

Anyone know the race and book I am talking about?

In the first Mission Gamma novel, there was a race that communicated with lights flashing over their bodies. I thought this was a great concept and really intrigued me. I'd love to read more about them.

Sounds like it's from one of W. R. Thompson's books, either Debtor's Planet or Infiltrator, I think. I remember Thompson created intriguing alien guest characters in both books.

Read up on squids, octopuses and cuttlefish.

Infiltrator has a race that uses insults to show that they're not about to attack (basically, the opposite of the above example). I haven't read Debtor's Planet yet.

Yes, it's Debtor's planet, I dug it up this morning. The character is an ensign called Shrev and is a 'Zhuik'.

Wesley listened patiently while Shrev spoke. From time to time Data asked him to describe the conversations he'd had with different Megarans. Data was efficient, Wesley noted, and ten minutes after the start of the debriefing his questions had brought them up to the fight. "Perhaps you should speak with Counselor Troi," Data said, when Shrev described the native's death at her hands. "Killing is always a traumatic event."

"It is," Shrev agreed, and Wesley saw how puzzled she looked. "But I must tell you, sir, it is too late for Counselor Troi to have words with my traumatized assailant."

Wesley strangled a laugh. "Shrev, I believe Commander Data is concerned with your feelings."

Her wiry antennae squirmed in obvious confusion. "Indeed? I thank you for your concern, Commander, but I am not troubled, even though the man I fought was unforgivably rude."

There are very few original-to-novels aliens I yearn to see again, but I'd enjoy seeing M'Ress interact with the Eeiauoans of "TOS: Uhura's Song", and some Andorians to interact with the Theskians of "TNG: Metamorphosis".

The Neyel (The Sundered, The Red King)

The Lonat (Fallen Heroes). I totally love that scene where the Lonat captain hails DS9 and speaks in rhyme, as is normal for his race, and everyone else in Ops joins in - even Kira, who is extremely hung over. :guffaw:
