Special Collertors Editions

I just got the widescreen special collectors editions of all 10 movies for $7.99 each at a place called Shopko, which is our local version of a Target. I screamed in the store when I saw them.

So, heads up, check your local Targets and Walmarts.

Saw a random assortment of 'em at the Wal-Mart Supercenter yesterday, priced at $7.50 each.

Humm. I was planning to go to ShopKo tonight anyway...

I better check now which ones I already have.

Now that was tougher than it should have been.

I looked through ShopKo's DVD section for quite a while before I finally found the row of $7.99 movie specials on a bottom shelf. There wasn't a Trek movie among them. I was about to leave when, on an end cap away from the DVDs, unpriced, there they were. All the movies except Nemesis. I asked a stock boy if these were on sale for $7.99, too. He scanned one and said yes. I bought four I didn't have already: III, IV, VI and IX. I still don't own V. It isn't worth $7.99, the price of a cheap meal out. Yup, I'd rather have a chicken sandwich and fries that The Final Frontier. Sorry, Bill.

I recently picked up the last three that I needed at a store that had them priced about $13 each and as part of a buy 2 get 1 free sale. Only under those conditions was I able to make myself purchase Nemesis. I don't have to worry about having to watch it anytime soon, as my reexploration of Trek via DVD involves next finishing off the TOS movies with VI, then moving onto gradually buying and watching all 7 seasons of TNG, before I get to the TNG movies.

Yesterday I picked up the special edition of "Generations" in the bargain bin at ShopKo. When I opened it there was no booklet. Is it supposed to have a booklet, or did I "get what I paid for"?

My local ShopKo had all ten movies for $7.99.

They stopped making inserts with the Special Collector's Edition for The Final Frontier, so you did get what you paid for.

I was really disappointed by the Generatiosns special features, although the commentary by Moore and Braga makes up for the lack of special features, I guess. Still worth $7.99 though!

I went back and bought The Final Frontier. I had to. The row of movies on the shelf looked sort of stupid without it. It is only $7.99, after all. That's not an uncommon tip. My ShopKo still hasn't put up a sign saying the movies are on sale. It looks like they haven't sold any to anyone but me. I wonder why.

Wonder why they did that. How expensive are those inserts anyway?

Last June I bought the 4 TNG SCE DVDs from Deep Discount DVD from their "Buy 2 Get the 3rd DVD Free" special. I bought GEN (replacing the barebones DVD), FC, INS, and considered NEM to be free.

I have only seen NEM once in its entirety in theaters back in December 2002. When I saw it again in 2004, and then again in 2006, both times I fell asleep rewatching it. Very few films can make me fall asleep. NEM happens to be one of them.

I honestly don't know, but that's around the same time that a lot of companies abandoned the inserts. They used to be de rigueur, now they're the exception to the rule. Disney is the only one I can think of that still puts them in regularly.

Here in Australia, the two sides of each ST insert was printed on the reverse of the cover, and is visible through the transparent case. So we got "inserts" for every ST movie.

I want the SE of TWOK (only TOS movie I don't have the SE of)but... my local Wal-Marts (3 in town) are getting crappier with their selections. Unless I want 10 copies of NEM which seems to be the only ST they ever have in stock.

Actually, the only Trek movies I'm finding anywhere these days are the big 10 movie sets which I have no need or reason to buy.
