Spare a thought for Kris Marshall...

StCoop

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
...sitting by the phone waiting for that call from his Agent that's never coming.

Seriously though, was the entire reason for his being the No.1 favourite for the past six months that he left a series at the same time as Capaldi announced his departure?

Yep.

Doctor Who wasn't created as a ginger. Casting a ginger would've been a silly gimmick to please SJW like myself. I'm glad the producers didn't bow to the pressure of people like me. That would've ruined Doctor Who forever. The Doctor not being a ginger clearly is an integral part of the show's premise.

:shifty:

Also: What @cultcross said. Never liked Kris Marshall.

That pretty much sums it up.

I've seen Marshall do a straight cop drama (not Death in Paradise). The show was merely okay, more due to writing, but he did get into it.

Maybe next time.

Never liked him really, so I'm glad it's not him. I wonder if he was considered or whether it was all fan speculation?
According to Chibnall:
"I always knew I wanted the Thirteenth Doctor to be a woman and we're thrilled to have secured our number one choice."
So I doubt he was ever considered.

There is a good reason for sparing a thought for Marshall -- people have been connecting to the Doctor in the media and online for the past three or four months, talking about him constantly, and that has to wear on a person, to know that people are connecting you to a role you're not going to have.

Or, he took it in stride and had a good laugh about it. :)

I thought Marshall would have made a fine doctor, but now I can't help but wonder when they'll send a female detective to Saint-Marie.

Only because the very first episode was just on Drama. Good stuff.
