SOUNDTRACKS

The Final Fantasy OST arrived today (ordered it from a firm in the US via Amazon.de - that was the cheapest way :) )...

Anyway, I'm listening to the CD right now, and I'm all goose-bumpy - a good sign, that means 'great music' :D
Of course I recognize the music but only now realize how much of it is drowned in the sound-mix of the film (more so than is the case with the music in other films, it seems).

A FANTASTIC score. :techman:

The Fantastic Four films had well....a fantastic score! Very classic Williams-esqe stuff. Especially in Rise of the Silver Surfer. Speaking of Williams, I'm suprised you don't own Star Wars Episodes IV-VI soundtracks. They have double disc complete scores now, and are totally worth listening to someday. Star Trek III has a lot of the same themes as II, being still Horner and all, but it does have some great new pieces. Like returning to Vulcan, and Stealing the Enterprise. IV is another great ST soundtrack. Oh, and I just got the Incredible Hulk Soundtrack as well. It's 16.99, and only on Amazon. It's two discs, and is practically the entire movie, plus the stuff they cut out. I'm halfway through disc one and it's, dare I get away with another pun, INCREDIBLE!
 
Amazon.de doesn't offer any version of the Incredible Hulk-OST... *grrr*

As for Williams... I may someday get me the soundtracks for the original trilogy ... but his newer music - there is even less diversity in it than in the later works of Goldsmith
 
It's very difficult to find, in the US anyway, but I highly recommend James Horner's score to Willow. One of the best ever, in my opinion. Just amazing.

Also, Zimmer's The Last Samurai, Edelman's Gettysburg and Hisaishi's Princess Mononoke are all great.

Yeah, it's pretty sweet. I enjoyed it more than the movie. Way glad I managed to pick that one up. And I've definitely listened to it more than the score for "The Dark Knight" - DK works fine in the movie, but I was more impressed with the album for "Batman Begins". It's also much better than the score for "Iron Man", which was exceedingly pedestrian, even though it's a better movie than "Incredible Hulk". I hope Favreau can fix that for the sequel.
