Although, I am glad that filly shirts didn't last long as a fashion trend!
 
That was nice. Two interesting notes: Walter seemed a little underwhelmed, almost like he wanted to get out of there. And did you see how shocked Nimoy's wife(?) looked at the whole mess of screaming fans?

And oh man -- glad he got rid of that thing below his nose. Yikes.


One minor disappointment: I guess they either edited out Jerry Goldsmith attending the premiere or he didn't attend. I wonder what the answer is.
 
Most of them WERE underwhelmed at the premiere, whether they let on or not. I know James Doohan said he was in later interviews.
 
Wonder what the box is the woman keeps handing them? Can almost make out what she saying to Shatner but not quite.
 
very interesting. wish the audio was better. as for Nimoy's mustache, i believe this was around the time he was doing the play about Vincent Van Gogh.
 
Persis looked great. That almost looked like her real hair but I don't think it could have grown back that quickly? Not sure how much time elapsed from the end of filming until the premier.

I think it was her real hair. She tugged on it, from what I could tell, to show that it was her real hair, because apparently people knew she was bald in the film. I could be wrong, though.

The last day of principal photography was January 26, 1979.
 
Blimey, I didn't even recognise Persis at first! She looks terrific there, like a real film star!
 
It always makes me sad looking back on videos like these with Nimoy, Kelley, Doohan and Whitney all gone.

Amazing video, but just a little depressing.
 
Thanks for sharing this rare footage. I've always wondered how this premiere happened back in the day after the troublesome production. Robert Wise must have come from the editing room straight to the premiere. If you look closer, I think you can see some glue on his hands...

Seeing Nimoy with that mustache and with the ominous background music makes me think he's halfway to Mirror Nimoy.
