Solving Africa's famine, a solution - mabye.

Money aside, could Africa's famine be solved if series of cannals(waterways) were dug - starting at the city rivers and working in to the worst area's.

It would allow for more crops to be grown and better trade (like in the industrial revolution). But would this idea work

Based on most of human history, I imagine few would argue that irrigation works.

It's a question of the resources available.

Much of Africa already has the fertile land and other necessary conditions to outproduce the western world in terms of crop output. New technology, while beneficial, isn't really needed. Except in a few cases, famines are more often the result of political and economic instability in those nations, as well as warfare. But one of the biggest problems in development is that Western agriculture is so heavily subsidized, making it impossible for indigenous farmers to compete with the price of western goods. If the West gave fewer subsidies to farmers, then conditions would likely exist for many African nations to develop larger agricultural sectors and get their economies going.

I suppose it's possible to argue, given knowledge of economic data, that a series of canals might reduce the price of African farmers' produce enough to be competitive.

Might also help if the governments would stop with the raping and pillaging in some parts.

A little stability in government would probably go a long way.
