Solo RPG?

disclaimer: I'm a bit rubbish at RPG's but interested.

Are there any solo Star Trek RPG's out there that I could get into easily? I kinda like playing but my skill set is extremely limited, laughably so. I have a very good friend who is a hardcore gamer/war gamer but he has zero interest in sci-fi and lives in another town. I just sometimes fancy playing something. Can anyone help me out?

You mean like a Pen and Paper game? Or like a computer game?

I guess Star Trek Online would probably somewhat qualify if you are looking for the the last though I would not call it a deep RPG, and unlocking some of the content will mean that you will have to pay for it. (or grind for days)

Sadly the Star Trek gaming library never got a single player title such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic where you build your own character, determine statistics, classes, and so on.

There are a number of old Star Trek PnP games such as the FASA one, Decipher, and Last Unicorn Games, but recently it has been announced that a new RPG is in development so perhaps you should wait for that if you want to play it with friends.

I'm talking primarily about pen and paper or a card game.

There's a quite lovely set of Doctor Who RPG's designed by fans. Is there nothing like this for Trek?

Hmm, I have not seen any mentioning of such games on this forum. I am not sure if a lot of traditional RPG players even come here.
Perhaps better to ask on a forum dedicated to such games.

I know the Doctor Who game that you're talking about. It's my favorite RPG of all time. At one point I was going to do a Star Trek hack of it. I might get around to finishing it.

We are. That is such a good game. Someone made a Sherlock Holmes hack. I haven't played it, but I downloaded it. I'm currently working on some professional releases, but I'll try and create a Star Trek hack soon.

Modiphius Entertainment have announced they are working on a new Star Trek role play game,Star Trek: Adventures, which is set for release next summer.

The game will span the entire prime timeline, and will also make use of miniature models of characters, as Modiphius describe in their announcement

I have a hard time imagining that solo play would be very fun, the game will be based on the 2d20 system, which is classic Pen&Paper fare in terms of storytelling (i.e. the Game/Dungeon Master - Player dichotomy).

If you don't have a way to play locally with others, it might be worth checking out systems like roll20.net - they are very robust, and groups of players are constantly looking for fresh meat, including newbies.

I recommend the FASA Star Trek RPG! While you'll need at least one other person to play, I found it fun to design ships and stations, fill them crew and create brief backgrounds; making new alien species was always fun....if you're a fair-minded person, you can even run some solo ship battles pretty easily.
