Hi All,

Its my first time here so I wanted to ask all of you, who really thinks that the original series is the best series out of all the Star Trek Series out there??

Just wondering, anybody thinks that????

Grew up with the original. While some of the later shows were acceptable, and occasionally very good, the original is still the best...

I do. Agree with the above. Some of the latter Treks are very good but the original, when it was firing on all cylinders, was outstanding.

It's hard to deny that without TOS, there would be no STAR TREK.

TOS not only served as the "origin" of this franchise, simple human nature makes it natural that TOS would be the prime candidate for the best of all the TREKs. In the mid-1960s, Roddenberry started out with an unproven and rather risky new TV show concept. Nobody ever tried this before on prime time network TV. Add to that a cast of (relatively) unknown actors, and TOS was really a huge gamble. Everybody involved in this original endeavor was taking a huge gamble, and they were (relatively speaking) hungry. Being hungry naturally made the cast and crew more likely to take risks and go the extra mile.

That's a major distinction from subsequent series and movies, which happened well after TOS have ascended to "cult" status in syndication.

Hands down. And unlike any of the successors TOS hit the ground running with few serious rough spots.

Is it perfect? No. Is it as long run? No. But it is clearly the best.

I wouldn't say it's the "Best"

Though I would say it is very enjoyable.....I like all the trek I've seen just about equally...

Well DS9 is great.....but still....I always like TOS since it's the original the start of the voyages of the Enterprise under Kirk's command.

I need to get this series on DVD, I just got DS9 so I might look into getting the Remastered TOS Series later this year.

As a Niner myself (who is also a Classic Trekkie), the preferred order between DS9 and TOS (1st and 2nd respectively) tend to interchange, as I find them both to be of the highest quality, and choosing is very, very difficult. I can honestly call myself a whole hearted TOS fan and a whole hearted DS9 fan. I just enjoy them too much to make any kind of firm pronouncement of one over the other.

Add it didn't suffer from being politically correct. It has a distinctive and unapologetic dynamic style. It has energy, enthusiasm and grit. Kirk and company could mix it up.

Another thing: none of the other series could do humour like TOS. In comparison the other series were stuffed shirts whose humour always seemed forced and contrived. And although they could be silly TOS could pull off humorous episodes in a way the other series never could.

I love TOS. It was the Star Trek I grew up with, but I think it's the second best behind TNG and DS9.

^ I'm no mathematician... but wouldn't that make it third best? ;)

No, because I happen to love TNG and DS9 equally, so they are both tied for first place on my list. Neither is better or worse than the other. That's why TOS comes in second.

If "The Cage" and WNMHGB had never been (or never aired) and "The Corbomite Maneuver" had been the TOS pilot it would easily outclass any subsequent series pilots. And it would have been an outstanding start for TOS because it perfectly represents what the series was about and what it aspired to do.

And I would take TCM over any of the films and anything the subsequent series have to offer.
