So which books are on your holiday gift list?

Now that I'm back from a long lurk (lots of covering hours for someone else at work... :scream:) I was wondering... what's on everyone list for the holidays?

Me, I'm behind on just about everything, it seems. I have some Corps of Engineers ebooks to pick up (and I love reading ebooks on my PDA at work. I look busy). And there's probably some more ebooks to pick up.

So I'm thinking I'll ask for a couple of book store gift cards to cover the new dead-trees I don't have, especially the TNG relaunch stuff that's been coming out. (Does eReader do gift certs, I wonder...?)

Karen

SCE Creative Couplings
TTN Sword of Damocles (jan 1 release according to Amazon UK)

i'll be getting Before Dishonour in a fortnight with Transformers on DVD.

I'll probably just ask for a gift card for Borders or B&N since I'm not sure which books I will be getting or when I'm gonna want them, and because my sister hates the fact that I read Star Trek books, and no matter how many times I ask for them she refuses to buy them for me. :scream: :brickwall:

That's sad, man :(

My holiday list is comprised of the following titles (plus all the previous ones I haven't got):

The Next Generation: Resistance
The Next Generation: The Sky’s the Limit
The Next Generation: Q&A
The Next Generation: Before Dishonor
Corps of Engineers: Creative Couplings
Titan: Sword of Damocles

Any and all I would like to get, though the likelihood of all of them is slim to none, one can dream.

Wow, that's unfortunate. :(

I bet that whatever your sister reads, she can't hang out with the authors online quite so easily....

My list is half Star Trek, half current events/other things I'm interested in. Here are the Trek titles on it:

Resistance (Star Trek: The Next Generation) by J.M. Dillard

Before Dishonor (Star Trek: The Next Generation) by Peter David

The Sky's the Limit (Star Trek: The Next Generation) edited by Marco Palmieri

Star Trek: Titan: Sword of Damocles by Geoffrey Thorne

Q&A (Star Trek: The Next Generation) by Keith R.A. DeCandido

Tunnel Through the Stars: The Dominion War, Book 3 (Star Trek: The Next Generation)

And, now, Creative Couplings.

I've just picked up The Essential Ellison, which is a terrific read. No mention of Star Trek in there unfortunately, though he does note Gene Roddenberry was approached for a role with his ill-fated TV series.

I certainly plan to pick up Before Dishonour, and perhaps Q & A, though I may try the latter at the library first.

This afternoon, I'm heading out to buy Dragons of Highlord Skies, the second Dragonlance "lost" Chronicle. \o/

I also buy the Trek books myself as they come out. Here are the books that made it onto my solstice wish list:

Legends of Dune and Prelude to Dune trilogies by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson
The Road to Dune by Frank Herbert, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson
Frozen in Time: The Fate of the Franklin Expedition (expanded ed.) by Owen Beattie & John Geiger
Fatal Passage: The Story of John Rae, the Arctic Hero Time Forgot by Ken McGoogan
The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien

I always buy the mass markets as they come out, but I do ask for large-format books for Christmas. Unfortunately, there aren't really any large-format Star Trek books these days.

That's more than made up for, however, by the sheer number of Doctor Who books, which have pretty much dominated my lists the past few years. This year:

- Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary
- Bernice Summerfield: The Inside Story by Simon Guerrier
- Third Dimension: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to Doctor Who 2007 by Stephen James Walker
- Ahistory: An Unauthorized History of the Doctor Who Universe: Second Edition by Lance Parkin
- Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia by Gary Russell
- The Target Book: A History of the Target Doctor Who Books by David J. Howe
- Doctor Who: Short Trips 18: Time Signature by Simon Guerrier
- volumes 5 & 6 of About Time: The Unauthorized Guide to Doctor Who by Tat Wood & Lawrence Miles

Ummmmmm....

Voyages of Imagination? Ships of the Line? Strange New Worlds 10? Grand Designs? Creative Couplings? Vulcan's Soul Book 3? Bloodwing Voyages? Twist of Faith? Collision Course? Mirror Universe? The Sky's the Limit?

[...] The Sky's the Limit?

I guess he already got one of those as a "present".

Okay, I have to admit I engaged in some hyperbole. Voyages of Imagination and Ships of the Line were both on my list last year. And I wasn't counting "normal" trade paperbacks (such as the Corps of Engineers and Mirror Universe books) as I buy them as they come out, too-- I suppose I should I been more specific.

But there's definitely a dearth of appealing hardcovers as opposed to, say, four or five years ago.
