So what's the craic with that new Dalek?

The Squire of Gothos

Spare parts in the background and what seems to be a military utility belt slung around the Dalek.

A collector? War games? A lone survivor? All done before I guess.

Does the Doctor visit a pre-Time War pocket of time (is that possible?)

Complete guess, but I'm wondering if its a Dalek built by humans, not an authentic Skaro version...there might be more than a few Dalek parts lying around after Evolution of the Daleks after all??

Guess we;ll find out soon enough.

We can only speculate. It's a very short clip after all. Perhaps tomorrow's new trailer may shed more light. I'm quite hopeful for this story actually, perhaps over all the others. Gatiss is due a classic.

^Why is he due a classic? I don't think he's a bad writer but I've never seen anything he's written that I'd class as brilliant. The unquiet dead was good(though somewhat limited by the 45 minute run time) and The Idiot Lantern was kind of average.

End of the day (and you will hate me for saying this) he's no Moffat and he's not RTD...

Gatiss has done a lot of BBC stuff (League of Gentlemen, Randall and Hopkirk) and was one of WHO's main supporters in the 90s. He also wrote some pretty decent WHO novels and audios during the hiatus.

I wouldn't judge him entirely based on his previous work for the new series.

As for the Dalek, apart from the jacket and color (which appears to be a darker shade, perhaps a return to the color of the Daleks of the original series?) It still appears to be the same kind. There is however, a White Dalek seen in the trailer which appears to have at least a different type of dome. Could be a brand new design, or just another special Dalek like the Emperor or Supreme.

The Unquiet Dead was extremely good, I seem to remember The Idiot's Lantern being quite poor. Maybe classic's a bit strong, but I think another good-un should be next. I've got high hopes for it at least.

Of course, if you want to expect that worst, you're welcome to. It brings a smile to my face to see being described as not being RTD as a bad thing.

My only concern I think is that Gatiss has never written a Dalek story. This is probably due somewhat to the Dalek embargo in the 90s, where WHO novels were not permitted to use them (with the exception of a few references and John Peel's novels).

It's actually seen in the current trailer. Although we might get a better glimpse this weekend.

White Daleks have been seen before, as Davros's Dalek faction in Revelation and Rememberance of the Daleks.

However, from what we've heard about the story so far, it sounds a lot like "Power of the Daleks" the lost Troughton debut story where human colonists (On a planet called "Vulcan"!) attempted to reprogram the Daleks as servants. Guess how that went.

The title makes me think that this brings the Daleks back, and that their "Victory" is that more than just a few manage to escape and perhaps regrow their Empire. In other words, perhaps the Doctor doesn't totally frustrate their plans and leave only a few left.

From the looks of the dalek it looks like he is "helping", that is "programmed", to help the military in some way. It is wearing a utility belt and has a water bottle on its back. Who know where it came from but it looks like the Doctor has seen it for the first time and not knowing that it is "benign" he takes an axe or something to it.

Who wants to bet that they, the military, think they have it under control and then it suddenly turns on them.

It's the second world war and a scientist reveals his latest creations, Daleks!

Churchill doesn't care where the professor got these things just as long as they win the war

Churchill has them painted up in green battle colors with Union Jack painted helmets

He's the goddamn Bat-Dalek.

He can defeat the Doctor, if he has time to prepare.

...remaking The Power of the Daleks.

What sort of milky shadow would that Bulldog have been with out all that stout, port and bourbon?

My first thought on seeing pouch-pockets on a Dalek was Donna's rant from Runaway Bride about pockets.

My second is those suicide Bomber Daleks which Davros employed in Destiny of the Daleks who had numerous explosives limpeted to their casings before they were trundled towards their target.

My third thought is that those "pouches" are full of food and booze, as a separate search and relief function like the Saint Bernard's patrolling on the Swiss Alps who have tiny barrels of bourbon tied around their necks sent off to look for avalanche survivors.

My fourth thought is that it may be some form of control collar? Or even a fabric patch over a hole/crack in the casing which "someone" is threatening constantly to blackmail the Daleks into conscript service.

My fifth thought is that like a marsupial, that Dalek is carrying it's young outside it's casing, if their nursery was damaged or destroyed that this generation are having to mule the next?

My sixth thought is deuterium. I mean what other "powersource" is a Dalek going to find usuable in a world war towy era? And of course it's going to keep all that heavy water in "standard issue Tommy drinking canteens" belted to it's bosom area.

My seventh thought is that maybe the travel casing isn't as reliable as it should be, because of age or battle damage, and that the Daleks actually do need survival supplies for the moment when every so soon that their "Dalek" will power down and brown out.

My eight thought on the matter is that Dalek's may have had to have wound back to firearms, and they are in the need to carry addition ammunition. of course that would mean that they are reliant on humans to load their magazines in some sort of symbiotic relationship (great shades of matrix II and 3? Totally pilot fish.)

My ninth thought is that if their are human minds inside those Dalek casings that they would be psychologically unbuckled to be completely naked in public, since even Adam needed a fig leaf.

My tenth thought, depending on how broken unreliable their systems are, it could also be series of self pumping flotation aids for fear of water conflict, or parachutes for if they intend to to try flying when their gas tank is running on fumes.

Daleks don't have hands to reach into those pockets.

They also don't have noses, BTW.

It's like having chairs on a Dalek spaceship.

Well I assume the pouches are there to enable them to carry equiptment for the troops they go into battle with? Or else it is just to make them look more WW2 :)

I'm almost as pumped for this as I was with the preview of the episode "Dalek".

It looks cool, and i guess thats all that counts.

If your putting a Dalek in WW2, you want some cammo or green fabric.

Besides, its either that or its packing spare dalek bumps incase one gets shot off.
