So, um, why did they Forget Barclay?

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Pathfinder vs. Projections.

Janeway goes to the point of making a big deal about having an unknown guardian angel looking out for them... I recall some of the actors claiming that it took as long as 3 weeks to introduce a humorous ad lib into an approved script, but surely Dwight knew he had been on Voyager before?

Were they trying to qualify the disjoint timelines, or was one of these adventures set on a quicksilver Voyager or did simply Janeway just forget?

I just found this a really weird slip, especially since actually referencing a previous episode would convince a couple people to go and buy the first season videos(This was all a very long time ago.)

Probably because what we see of Barclay is all part of the doctor's illusion.

It's possible that only Chakotay saw Barclay character during that episode, since he was the one who "visited" the doctor in his illusory world and explained why he'd malfunctioned. Barclay had been part of the team who worked on the EMH program--and at that point had no particular interest in Voyager (at least, not to their knowledge).

Barclay would, therefore, have no memory of the doctor's malfuction--he was there as aa holographic illusion. I think a comment by Dwight would have been COMPLETELY impossible, given the circumstances.

Add to that fact that over four years passes between Projection and Pathfinder, and it's not surprising that they might well have "forgotten" about Barclay, or perhaps just not made the connection yet. It was long enough and vague enough, IMHO, that everyone but the EMH should have forgotten.

Well the Doctor doesn't forget. :)

I'm sure he credited Barclay in the company of other real people at the end of projections as being the person responsible for the code maintaining his interpersonal subroutines... Where they drinking? I can almost see someone having a toast? My memory is very unreliable.

O, I actually mean Dwight the actor when he read the script, that he didn't make some notes for the director or script editor. He might even have considered this was the first step in a cunning plot to rob him of his residuals from projections.

Barclay was one of the guys who designed the basic EMH program, and the EMH had met a hologram of him at one point... which made him slightly less important than, say, Lewis Zimmermann, who was more prominent in the holographic making and who they'd also come across in holographic form, form distinct from his Doctor program (in "The Swarm").

Barclay isn't the same person as a holo-Barclay anyway, so I don't see the big deal. Don't you remember evil holo-Barclay from "Life Lines"?

Well I did. but who's to say that the crew 5 years on after that would if they met him again and reintroduced themselves as a new acquaintance?

Sometimes I think they never got out of the Caretakers rape camp and someone is just dreaming all this in desperation while hooked into one of those matrix like super stirrup rigs.
