so tired of being tired

Rÿcher

Fleet Captain
I don't know if it's the Topamax that I'm on (it's the new migraine med that I'm on - I've been on it for a month) or whether it's because I'm anemic or what but lately I haven't been able to get to sleep very well at night and come morning, I have to get up with Olivia (16 months old), feed her, hang out with her, keep her safe, entertain her, et cetera...But lately I've been letting her play in our bedroom while I doze and I can't wait until she takes a nap so I can take a nap. By the time 2:30 PM rolls around, I've gotten in another 3 hours of shut-eye and I'm feeling a little better.

I just can't stand not being able to sleep at night but feeling so tired during the day that I can't spend as much quality time with Olivia that I'd like to. Y'know?

I picked up a multi-vitamin today with iron in it. It's marketed as an energy enhancement formula. I hope it helps.

Could also be my diet - or lack thereof if you want to call pizza, coke and raisin bran a diet.

Can't wait to get a stroller. That way we can go out for walks so I can get some exercise during the day.

That surely sucks!

I've been on some medication that made me sleep so lightly, waking up many times each night, that I felt as if I didn't get any sleep at all. Probably not the same, but I do know how it is not to sleep enough.

To combat that drowsyness you feel all day, try an extra-strenght vitamin B supplement (early in the day - NOT late in the aftrnoon or in the evning!); I forget what it supposedly does to you, but it will make you feel a lot more awake -and has none of the side-effects of, say, caffeine -and as vitamin B is water solluble; what your body doesn't want is washed out.

Part of your problem there.. get some better food (not that pizza is bad.. it's just not for every day) and especially something healthy and light.

I agree. I used to be tired a lot but when I started adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet things started getting better.

Thanks. Sometimes you have to hear (or read) what you already know). I have a feeling that a big part of it is the new medicine. The multi-vitamin that I started today seemed to help a great deal. I didn't even need a nap today.

As a borderline anemic and first-year teacher, I can sympathize! I feel tired all the time now. It's been an effort to try and find natural tricks to boost my energy levels.

From personal experience, the following do help:

Daily vitamins
Rigorous workout at the gym at least 2x/week
An extra cup of coffee in the early afternoon
A 20-minute power nap (no more!)
Granola bars (as a pick-me-up snack, not a meal!)
Drinking more water

All great ideas except for the power nap. (for me at least) I cannot do power naps. They feel like a tease and I feel worse afterwords. My wife can do them and be energized after them though.
