“The finale was going to be directed by [co-showrunner] Akiva [Goldsman], but it was also going to be a different finale. I can’t say too much about it, but if you’ve seen some of the other conversations have been going around about maybe or maybe not a crossover with another show, maybe or maybe not. At one point, there was going to be a sort of different thing for [the season 4 finale]. And Akiva, of course, you know, not only our showrunner, you know, he’s really our big-hitter director, and so he was going to come in for a very special episode that didn’t work out… The new break was really something that was really in my sweet spot.”

So we got teased last year with that whole Doctor Who Star Trek friendship gathering, me thinking that this is a sign that Star Trek and Doctor Who will FINALLY have a crossover event...only to once again get clock-blocked by the damn BBC! What is their major issue here?! Is it a matter of needing control? Money? Just give us the damn crossover already!

I think it’s more a case of Dr. Who collapsing on itself and being unable to do a proper crossover. But i’m sure money played a factor too.

It was 100% money, they only even managed to get a 5th season with the management change because the contracts were already signed, there's no way they would have authorized the millions or tens of millions it would have taken to secure a Doctor Who license.

No, it's because they convinced them to do a short season instead of movie.

I thinknthe explanation is Dr. Who can jump universes in the TARDIS.

The Whoverse is different than Trekverse, but the two can meet. Like mirror universe in Trek.

TARDIS Time and Relative Dimensions in Space. The Trek universe is simply one of the many relative dimensions.

I wrote a Trek fanfic where Voyager encountered a planet in the Delta Quadrant fighting a civil war. The 4th Doctor and Romana are guest stars. Romana gets mortally injured and is forced to regenerate. At the end of the story it's revealed the planet, in another universe, is Skaro. Yes, Voyager encountered Trek's Kaled civilization.

Why couldn’t they use one of the actors. As long as they never show them use the sonic screwdriver or call themselves “The Doctor”…there shouldn’t be a problem. It would be an unofficial crossover but it should be ok.

I'll accept a crossover where Temporal Investigations chews the Doctor out for all his time meddling. Even better if Wesley's involved.

Ensign Sue Must Die also included Dr. Who characters, among other franchises.

"Doctor Who" is referenced at least four times in the Trek novel, "Ishmael": the Fourth Doctor is described on Page 13, Metebelis crystals from "The Green Death" and "Planet of the Spiders" are mentioned on Page 57, the Second Doctor is described on Page 154, and Kirk recalls legends of a planet of stagnant time-travellers in the Kasteroborous galaxy on Page 200.

I just don't understand how Trek and Who being in the same universe makes sense. I mean shouldn't Starfleet encountered some Daleks or Weeping Angels or something, Also I am pretty sure Star Trek has been referenced as a tv show on Who, before.

In dr dooms first appearance, the fantastic four are seen reading a hulk comic and claim hulk is fictional. Hulk quickly meets the ff later on in the comics and i don't believe that him allegedly being fictional was ever mentioned again
