So, is it basically going to be...

Arpy

Vice Admiral
Admiral
TOS set during a training mission from which they all end up together? Or on the Enterprise's or this crew's very first mission out of spacedock? Aged (canon) Spock's reminiscences of such, to give an air of validity?

The cast looks very young, and there isn't really much reason to have them all together in this one if it's pre-TOS. And it's not quite a prequel, not quite a reboot...

Perhaps, and I don't believe this but just as a speculation, Spock travels back from the future to stop the Romulan threat to Kirk/Earth/the Federation and demands that the crew with which he is familiar be assembled early and given the Enterprise because only that unique team of individuals is, in his mind, capable of defeating the threat.

That's kinda what I'm expecting/hoping for. I really hope there's no time travel like is rumored. I wish they would give some agknowledgement of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and I already like the glimpses of the crew slowly coming together that we got from the "My Brother's Keeper" trilogy.

I really, really, REALLY hope Time Travel isn't involved in any way, shape, or form. It would really bog down a good story with overly-complicated sci-fi minutia.

Hopefully it's just Nimoy appearing in bookend scenes on Spock's deathbed, remembering "the good old days"...

That hardly sounds like a story Nimoy would see himself vital to, and he claims the reason he signed on is becasue old Spock is integral to the story. I am indeed wary of the time-travelling Romulans persued by time-travellling Spock rumor and how it might all be executed, but I do believe it to be true.

So, basically, you'll swap one cliche for an even more hackneyed one. Brilliant. You sure you didn't write for Enterpise?

See, I wouldn't have minded it if the characters were older...you can imagine everything with Gary Mitchell and Chris Pike, Kevin Riley, Robert April, and everything else one may/not have ever seen/read happening, then this First Mission Movie, and then TOS. Sure some of the canon/fanon contradicts itself but why make another version of it that contradicts more?

Unless the idea is to re-relive TOS, pretend it's all happening again for the first time. But 1) you can't fulfill its spirit by being a slave to its..."body", and 2) the ideal way to convince the audience this is the same but new is by killing off one of the "main yet disposable" characters - i.e. Chekov or Sulu.

Good point.

Just like we never saw Spock in Treks III, IV, V, VI, TNG, and XI.

Assuming the whole film is being told from one person's perspective, the differences between the TOS look and now will probably be the result of Spock's failing memory, possibly due to the onset of senility. We thereby get a furry fish of a tale, neither a recreation nor remake.

It's a bit like Life On Mars if you ask me. The whole back to the 70's scenario was Sam Tyler's coma dream and yet they end up making a spin off set ten years later called Ashes to Ashes! :rommie:

yep..I think it will be the first mission out of spacedock..Christopherpike had a good veiw of spock not rememebering the exact details of things an explanation for the differences..cool idea man!!
