So, if I wanted to pick up with the TNG crew....

I'm just looking to continue the TNG adventures as if the show were still on TV (so, told serially more or less) and after reading through the thread, "A Time to Born" seems to be the best place to start?


Also, once I rewatch DS9, I'm sure the urge to follow it's story after the finale will emerge. Is this book I need to start with as well:

^Well, the A Time to... series covers the year prior to Nemesis, but it is considered part of the same continuity as the post-NEM novels and some of its installments (primarily the last three) have lasting impact on the post-NEM fiction. So basically you're right. And you're right about the DS9 post-finale series as well. If you wanted to go strictly in chronological order, The Left Hand of Destiny comes before Avatar, but it's a side story about Martok and the Klingon Empire rather than part of the core DS9 narrative.
 
^But, the TLHoD books are referenced in later books, so it's a good idea to read them eventually. They're also really good books.
 
And if you read TLHoD and want to follow Worf's post-DS9 storyline from there, or if you want a prequel to his A Time to... reintroduction read TNG: Diplomatic Implausibility.

And actually that is basically 'Book Zero' of the IKS Gorkon/Klingon Empire series.

I already bought the First Book "A Time To Be Born"......are you saying it's important I start with Diplomatic Implausibility instead? It's fine if that's the case........it's available for the Kindle and I haven't started "A Time to..." yet............
 
No, the Klingon stuff is unconnected to the ATT books until the last three, and even then it's very, very minor. You could easily read the ATT books without having read the Klingon stuff. I think it's mainly just some characters who cross between them, and maybe a passing reference or two the events in DI and IKSG/KE.
 
^Right. Diplomatic Implausibility is labeled as a TNG novel, but it's really more of a "backdoor pilot" for the Gorkon series, with the Enterprise only appearing briefly and the main focus being on Worf and the Gorkon crew. What ryan123450 was saying was that, in terms of following Worf's career post-DS9, you'd start with The Left Hand of Destiny followed by Diplomatic Implausibility, with Worf's next major appearance after that being in the last three A Time to... books.
 
Alright. Thanks for clearing that up. My plan:

Now: Finish watching ST:TNG series
Next: Watch: Generations, First Contact and Insurrection
Then, Start Reading : "A time to" series up to book 7, then stop.......
Whilst watch DS9 series:
After watching DS9 series Start Reading : A Stitch in Time, Left Hand of Destiny, Diplomatic Implausibility then move onto the "Twist of Faith" omnibus using the DS9 relaunch list to dictate what to read from there....
 
Since you'll be going threw the movies it might be fun to add in a few novels there too. The best of that bunch is definitly Immortal Coil, which is mostly about Data. Other good ones in that era are Section 31: Rogue, and The Battle of Betazed, which ties into DS9-R. Also in this era is Gateways: Doors into Chaos which will explain more about the Gateways crisis seen in DS9-R.

But none of this is neccessary if you don't want to add more books to your to-read-pile.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm never averse to having more to read. When should I be reading each of these books? Directly after Insurrection or at some other point before or after the "A Time to" series?
 
Just go by publication date, unless you're really set on having every single book in chronological order relative to the series.
 
My TrekLit site has a pretty complete timeline of all the modern continuity novels, and the older stuff that I decided fits with it (or at least the stuff I put into my personal continuity). Keep in mind this site needs alot of work, but you'll be able to find all the TNG novels from that era and where they fit with the movies and the other tv series.

Someday I'll get back to working on it.

I know I'm not the only one that would love to have a few TNG books set during the original run of the TV show.

I'd like a good stand-alone or two with Riker, Troi and Data and whoever else back in their old places.

That's a really cool time line. We ought to get all that data in a database so it can be searched on, sorted, filtered, etc, etc.
 
I have no idea how to build a data base, but I did decide to put reworking this site closer to the top of my to-do-list. I started working on it last night and hopefully I'll have something to post in a few weeks. I guess I'll expand it to all the novels, with my personal continuity on a secondary page. The main point of the page will be to put all the Enterprise adventures in one reading/watching order, all the TOS adventures in one reading/watching order, etc. Plus I'm gonna add notes about connections and timeliney stuff.
