So, I got a part-time job as a video game blogger...

msbae

Commodore
...and I get paid based on the number of page views. So, PLEASE help me get paid by reading, commenting, digging, et al. I promise this blog will be be quite polite, nice, professional and all that jazz. There's no abstract craziness like my posts here, on other forums and various social networking sites.

Here's the link:

There's 2 posts so far. There's going to be a minimum of 4 every week. I hope this blog proves to be insightful for anyone who likes games. Yes, I will eventually blog about Star Trek games.

Sincerely,

msbae

Nice. That's certianly not a bad gig if you're gunning for a little extra money. I'd love to do something similar, especially since I don't exactly relish the thought of going back to work with another corporate retail entity. :angryrazz: Congrats on the job! You're hit count just got one increment higher. :)

I wish you hadn't mentioned that you get paid by the hit, because that just turned this thread into soliciting and I have to move it to Web Sites. Sorry about that.

(still, you'll get a few extra hits from people curious about the thread redirect!)

Congratulations on the new job though.

Congrats on the job :) Sounds like a pretty fun thing to be involved in.

The tips to game designers article was pretty cool :bolian:

Thanks to you all. I got an e-mail from my editor today. It seems she loved the '11 things' article too.

I have quite a few surprises in store for all you so, stay tuned.

Someone commented on one of my articles today using the name 'MSBAE fan.' Was that one of you guys? It might have been one of my acolytes over on GameFAQ's but, I'm not sure.

Also, I have posted 2 new articles since I last posted in this topic.

^ Another hit, then.
I like your article on Midway, too.

If you haven't registered, head over to Starscape BBS. Lots of game fans there. I'm sure they'd like to talk to a game reviewer/blogger.

Interesting articles, msbae. You're a game designer, you say? I have this idea for a game...

...

...Yeah, I'm just giving you a hard time. I get the same kind of crap, being a programmer for a living.

I hope I just made a few cents for you!

Cool blog, msbae. I don't game nearly as much as I did a few years back, but for some reason I still love reading about the industry. :D

I'm a jack of all computing, so I get a bit of everything. I'll do anything, too, within reason. Some people just have no idea what's reasonable.

Then, you will love my blog. I'm gonna tear the industry a new one. There is entirely too much crap going on there...

I get all that crap, in addition to my Dad wanting me to do just about everything for him, especially when he buys a new Laptop. Who can't figure out how to install a new printer or a USB WLAN receiver from Verizon Wireless? It's not like he's running Vista...

I don't complain too much, though. Sometimes, people come to me with interesting problems that are a real challenge. Anything that adds to my knowledge is (theoretically) good.

Interesting article. I don't think the Cell is really the problem with the PS3. Sony may have provided poor developer tools, though, which is usually what developers mean when they say something is "difficult to develop for."

The Cell being innately parallelized is a good idea, it's just too bad it was wasted on an otherwise awful console.

I don't think we're at risk for another video game crash, though. The market is simply way too diversified now, in a way it was not in the '80's. I think during these lean times you may see more budget titles, but other than that, the market is not likely to collapse in on itself. Gaming is mainstream now, and a very common form of entertainment. People still watch TV and go to movies during recessions, and while the gaming industry may suffer, it likely won't suffer as badly as other industries.

It may end up being a very bad time for console sales, but game sales shouldn't see a large decline.

To make the PS3 competitive, the only things Sony can really do are massive price slashes (and I doubt they'll be massive enough) and/or provide tools to make the platform easier to develop on (read: cripple the features developers don't know about and will never use.) Both measures may reduce the bleeding but I doubt they'll stop it. Nintendo has handily won this round in terms of console sales. Time to move on to the PS4.

W3rd.

Neither do I. I did suspect that might happen when Sony was still dominant and acting rather arrogant but, not anymore.

My thoughts exactly...

If any of you have a topic you want me to write about, feel free to mention it here.

Exactly. When my family thinks reasonable, they think free.
I, of course, think otherwise, and when I started charging them to fix their stuff (very, very reduced rates mind you. Instead of $45 an hour, it was $15 an hour and parts installed at cost) the calls pretty much dried up.

Yet another new article, this time ripping Sony a new one over the PS3.

Good article. They earned it.
I also agree about console prices. I lucked out and bought a refurb XBOX 360 (everything works flawlessly and the system was still in the original wrapper.) and got a free game with it for $170. It works beautifully and I now have 10 games and I only paid $3-$7 a piece (all used). I did it with my tax money and still had enough to pay all my bills! My friend on the other hand wanted me to buy a used PS3. I told him "a used PS3 is $300!" to which he replied "but it's got blu-ray!", to which I replied "But I can buy this XBOX 360, and a new blu-ray player for less than $300 combined!"

So Sony's hardware advantage is going right out the window as blu-ray players plummet in price.
Plus, I don't plan on buying a blu-ray player for a long time. I'm content with what I have.
