So ... How'd You Do?

Sad to say that I had to pick "no." Wrote less in '07 than '06 (I don't have a word count, but the compiled PDF backup comes out about fifty pages shorter), sold less (four short stories, half of which were actually recycled from previous years), and failed to carry through on my intention to finally get started on one of the less research-intensive novel ideas in my file. I'd blame the increased workload of my thesis, which did eat into my time, but the truth of the matter is I just don't seem to be as productive when not working under deadlines. Had none these past two months, and they were pretty much write-offs. I've never thought of myself as one of those people who works best under pressure, but damned if there isn't a better motivator than a looming due date. I officially resolve to do better next year (on the writing side, I mean... can't really control sales)... which, unfortunately, won't be altogether that difficult to fulfill. :o

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

In the home stretch of the first draft of my novel. A few set backs due to life throwing a curveball or two. So I voted option two.

I did get a few writing goals done this year. I submitted some original fiction stories -- which is more than I've done in past years. No sales, but that was an accomplishment. Finished some fan fic stories; I'm cheap and wary of the internet, so I submit to print publications which offer free copies for a story... and I generally write crossovers, which I couldn't sell in the general market anyway.

My goal for this year is to keep writing and submitting despite job changes!

With 2008 breathing down our necks, I was just curious ... how'd you do with your 2007 writing goals? Satisfied with what and how much you wrote? Did you surpass your goals? Did they change mid-year?

I had to choose "Not Quite". My fanfic that I've been working on since I was a Fleet Captain is stymied, and that was/is/will be my largest piece of work to finish. However, I did manage to crank out a ton of poems and haiku and the like, which makes me feel better. As well as an essay on gangsta rap music and the PMRC.

*shrug* I'm already typing up a list of what I want to write for 2008.

After many years of wanting to write, I actually started. It was late in the year, but I took a volunteer position writing PR for a small theater company. I have seen my words in print and while a small victory, it is a taste I like...
I have brushed off a few old pieces and am applying my ass to the seat, fingers to the keyboard and now 2008 is looking like it just might build on the success of 2007!
Happy New Year! :rommie:

I almost forgot, I decided to post a piece of fan-fiction I submitted to SNW several years ago, even though I am not entirely comfortable with it. But hey, it was fun to write!

Fell under "not quite." Didn't finish and market the screenplay I've been messing with for a long while (and I refuse to work on any of my others until this one is outta here), but I did start doing freelance writing on filmmaking again, so there is some decent and ongoing income being generated. It ain't brilliant work, but it lets me feel I'm earning my keep (and it justified getting a laptop, too.)
